Job Description

1)      Background 

Project HOPE is a leading international health organization with the aim of expanding access to comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment services; integrated maternal, neonatal and child health; and family planning programs.

 Project HOPE will hold an annual retreat from October 28 to November 01, 2019, with an aim to improve working dynamics and communication among team members. This effort is intended to enable a smooth transition to a new, more integrated way of working. As such, Project HOPE is seeking a qualified short-term Consultant to facilitate a five-day retreat focusing on team bonding, fun, motivational activities and communication strategies across projects/programs.

 Project HOPE is currently counting 63 staff members. All staff members will be participating in the retreat.

 2)      Objectives 

The main objective of the retreat is annual planning, team-building and maintaining a conducive working environment. The sessions will include role-plays and interactive gatherings that will foster team spirit and increase trust among the staff. The consultant will organize the sessions utilizing a creative and dynamic approach to encourage team performance, collaboration and fostering innovation and creativity and communication and socializing within the team. The retreat will be held for 5 days from 28th of October to 1st of November 2019. The venue of the retreat will be determined later. 

3)      Duties and Responsibilities of the consultant:

  1. Preparatory/planning of the team building retreat workshop
  • Discuss the proposal with management team and finalize the event plan.
  • Develop a customized training and team building plan in consultation with the Project HOPE retreat task force; and submit a detail plan to the taskforce recommending the appropriate set up and sessions to accommodate for the above background and objectives.
  • Interactive and flexible facilitation tools and material aids prepared prior to the workshop.
  1. Facilitation of the team building retreat workshop
  • Facilitate the retreat according to the agreed agenda
  • Interactive and team building sessions and assign time frames to it.

  4)      Expected outcomes

  • A thoroughly planned and smoothly executed team-building retreat
  • Meeting the expectations of all staff for the team building exercise
  • Write a final retreat report that includes the results of the assessment of working dynamics, identifies strengths and weaknesses in communication and collaboration within the team and recommends how to build on strengths and address weaknesses.

Job Requirements

1)      Key competences, technical background, and experience required:

  • Degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Communications, and/or relevant field required;
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, with a focus on facilitating meetings or workshops for international NGO, regional or bilateral development organizations;
  • Expertise in designing and implementing a wide range of interactive methods to strengthen teams and improve communication in the workplace;
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience moderating meetings of culturally diverse and international groups;
  • Applicant is expected to demonstrate documentation on previous similar activities from NGOs like Project HOPE.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic Languages.

 2)      Payment Mode and Applicable Tax Withholding:

  • Project HOPE will deduct 2% withholding tax if the Consultant (Firm) can submit copy of both Trade License and TIN certificate. If one of the two or both are missing project HOPE will deduct 30% withholding tax.
  • Payment will be made after completion of the assignment and submission of final report.
