Position title: Country Director

Duty station: Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, with minimum 50% travel to project areas in Andabet

Contract duration: Full-time 2-year Contract with possibility of renewal

Eligibility: Ethiopian citizens

Start: July 1st 2022

We are looking for a Country Director in Ethiopia, on behalf of a global Christian organization, that addresses issues of deforestation and climate change, while empowering people to lift their communities out of rural poverty.

“Inspired by the impact of our work in service to rural communities around the world, we are driven to grow our programs to help address the rising need. By 2025, we plan to work in 10 countries, 60 watersheds, and with nearly 900,000 people globally; and project growing past our current goal of $22 million as we seek to become the premier organization operating at the nexus of environmental restoration and poverty alleviation.”

Education and Experience:

  • Must be an Ethiopian citizen
  • At least 10 years of demonstrated track record as a country director for a comparable NGO/nonprofit in Ethiopia or other countries in Africa.
  • A Masters degree in agriculture, rural development, economics, community development or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • At least 7 years of experience of managing community-based organizations through inclusive and participatory approaches.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in both English and Amharic languages.

Skills:

  • Proven success in developing and managing high impact community-driven programs in dynamic environments.
  • Evidence of working in the intersection between poverty alleviation and climate change, preferably with a focus on environmental restoration, economic development, and faith-based networks.
  • Excellent skills and demonstrated success in hiring, mentoring, building, and managing diverse and high performing teams in challenging security environments.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in developing, managing, implementing, monitoring, and overseeing the evaluation of fast-growing and high-impact programs.
  • Evidence of prior experience in building and working with Boards of Directors with strong governance and fiduciary oversight.
  • Unquestionable professionalism and integrity in the management of NGO programs, human resources, finances, and partnerships.
  • Proven organizational and planning skills matched with the ability to execute at a level of excellence in a complex and constantly changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience of managing program budgets and overseeing the implementation of strong financial accountability, reporting, and audit systems.
  • A track record of program representation and partnership management including host governments, donors, communities, civil society organizations, and church networks.
  • Evidence of a successful track record in producing high quality program reports for diverse audiences including NGOs, donors, and governments.
  • Demonstrated ability to write winning proposals, top rate project concepts, and technical briefs to support fundraising and donor cultivation.
  • Ability and willingness to live, work, and thrive in remote and underserved areas with modest resources.
