We are looking for a highly qualified Country Director who would like to further develop and strengthen our country operations in Niger.

NRC started to set-up a Country Office in February 2019 and is in the early stages of initiating programming. This Country Director position’s responsibility to first would be to continue the start-up, then further establish NRC as a quality operational humanitarian organisation in Niger with donors and other humanitarian actors and develop a strategic plan for the Country Program in consultation with the Regional Office.

The Country Director has the overall responsibility for the country operation, is a permanent member of the Central and West Africa (CWA) Management Group, and reports to the Regional Director of CWA.

Job description

Lead on the establishing of an NRC program in Niger
Successfully mobilise humanitarian funding.
National representation and coordination
Development and execution of country strategy
All in-country activities, personnel and the Country Management Group (CMG)
Safety and security of all staff
Provide vision, promote ideas, gain agreement and act as a role model
Analyse the political and humanitarian context and make the NRC program relevant to the context in Niger
Responsible for all NRC advocacy efforts in the country/region and ensure that contributions are made to NRC global advocacy efforts
Motivate and coach staff in order to create effective teams, with particular attention to ensuring an efficient Country Management Group
Be a proactive member of the Regional Management Group, promote collaboration with other COs and the Regional office and contribute to the development of the Central and West Africa Region as a whole.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years’ experience from working as a Senior Manager/Country Director in humanitarian/recovery context
Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented/proven results related to the position’s responsibilities
Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
Fluency in French and English, both written and verbal
Knowledge of the context in Niger and/or the Sahel
Experience/knowledge of mixed migrations flows in the region
Experience with start-up, exit or similar
Experience from advocacy work
