About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 11 Regional Offices, 33 Zonal Branches and 131  District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee  and 5871 Kebele Red Cross  committees.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure overall ERCS COVID-19 projects harmonization and realization of the intended results
  • Coordinate the implementation, monitoring, and review of all COVID-19 Response interventions/projects of the ERCS per the plans approved
  • Conduct and coordinate periodic review assessments of COVID-19 Response projects progress status
  • Undertake appropriate communication with other project coordinators on obtaining the necessary project-based information on the response
  • Prepare vivid action and operation plans for each response project of COVID-19
  • Communicate with ERCS Regional and Zonal Branches on the action plans, budget breakdown and regular monitoring of responses
  • Provide technical backstopping and undertake supportive supervision to response operational areas, jointly with the Senior Program Design and Monitoring Expert
  • Prepare and submit regular – monthly, quarterly, and biannual reports of updates and accomplishments of response projects
  • Identify best practices and track key lessons obtained from specific implementation of the response and document properly
  • Identify the major gaps looming in the specific implementation of the response and document properly
  • Ensure community engagement and accountability (CEA) through observing community complaint and feedback mechanisms
  • Regularly attend Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Cluster meetings held at UNICEF/other organizations
  • Contribute to effective networking, harmonization and partnership among other actors to avoid duplication and ensure programmatic success
  • Ensure that the rights and especial needs of more vulnerable people such as women, children, persons with disabilities, mentally challenged persons, and others are addressed
  • Follow up closely the engagement of volunteers in the COVID-19 prevention and response activities
  • Review and jointly assess capacity gaps of ERCS branches and ERCS HQs in terms of their ability to prepare and respond to COVID-19
  • Rigorously respond to and work with Red Cross Red Crescent Partner National Societies (PNSs) and other Movement Partners such as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC)
  • Uphold the seven  fundamental  principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescents and ensure their strict adherence in the project implementation
  • Implement other relevant duties as commanded by line manager

Terms of employment:- Contract for 6 months  

Job Requirements

Qualification Requirements:

  • First degree in Development studies, Disaster preparedness and response, Disaster management, Disaster risk management and other health related discipline with 6 years work experience.
  • Willing to give voluntary service to the society with his/her own initiative.
