The Feed the Future Ethiopia-Value Chain Activity (FTFE-VCA) is a five-year activity (January 2017-December 2021) that aims to benefit smallholder farmers through improved production, marketing, and enabling environment for the maize, chickpea, coffee, live animals/meat, and dairy value chains. Feed the Future Ethiopia Value Chain Activity supports value chain development of the commodities focusing on enhancing private sector investment and addressing critical market failures limiting the development of the selected value chains.

Duties and Responsibilities

The purpose of this STTA is to engage the services of a consultant to work as part of cup of Excellence  coordination team, to organize key elements of the competition within Jimma and the surrounding zones. The consultant will organize farmers outreach programs in the major coffee growing woredas, which requires constant consultation and communication with the regional stakeholders and farmers groups. The COE Regional Coordinators duration of days will be for maximum of 95 days.

Specific scope of work of the consultant under the title of COE Regional Coordinator as defined below:

  1. Coordinate the farmers outreach program; including the work to organize awareness creation workshops and facilitate media announcement and dissemination of promotional materials in the major coffee growing areas.
  2. Provide officials and farmers with all the necessary information regarding the competition, along with the schedule of the competition deadlines for sample submission, and locations for sample reception.
  3. Liaise with the regional Coffee Authority and other concerned government and private entity for the smooth implementation of the competition.
  4. Arrange adequate sample collection centre, warehouse, and overseeing the security and management of the warehouse, in collaboration with the national coordination team and technical experts from ACE.
  5. Responsible to facilitate sample collection.  These tasks include the following components: Arrange transportation for samples, Ensure all the required equipment and supplies are available for first stage evaluation and  Make sure all the necessary personnel are in place to support the sample preparation, testing recording data entry and auditing.
  6. Support the auditor to establish a record and solid chain-of-custody of selected coffee samples.
  7. Collect winning lots from the region and transport it to the national competition
  8. Provide feedback to the regional stakeholders, including farmers and processors, during the national competition process and the auction process.

Job Requirements

  • Individuals with University degree– BA, BSc in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Management Studies, Public Administration, or a related field
  • More than 5 years’ experience in the coffee industry
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid knowledge of standard office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Creative open-minded team player with strong initiative and willingness to learn; §
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural working environment
