Overview:

Global Communities works at the intersection of humanitarian assistance, sustainable development and financial inclusion to save lives, advance equity and secure strong futures. We support communities at the forefront of their own development in more than 35 countries, partnering with local leaders, governments, civil society and the private sector to achieve a shared vision of a more just, prosperous and equitable global community. We work with government, non-government, private sector, and community stakeholders to promote transparency, foster accountability, and access the channels they need to make their voices heard, promote change, and realize their full potential.

Global Communities is seeking a Deputy Chief of Party (DCoP) for the anticipated USAID Ghana Health Program (GHP). This five-year program seeks to accelerate reductions in preventable maternal, newborn, and child morbidity and mortality in geographic focus areas of Ghana. The Ghana Health Program builds on Ghana’s health and development progress to date in advancing the delivery of integrated health services for vulnerable populations. Technical assistance and service delivery activities will build the capacity, sustainability, and resilience of local institutions and health system actors. USAID envisions assistance under this program will significantly contribute to Ghana’s progress outlined in national strategies addressing preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths, nutrition status, malaria and HIV. This includes a renewed focus on primary care using the Ghana Health Service Community Health Planning and Services policy, the emerging Network of Practice approach and rapid expansion of basic emergency obstetric and newborn care and support services.

Under the direction of the Chief of Party, the DCoP will help provide management, relationship building/nurturing and technical support in the implementation of the project. Global Communities (formerly CHF International) is an international development and humanitarian aid organization that operates in approximately 25 countries per year. The non-profit organization was founded in 1952 as the Cooperative Housing Foundation and provided affordable housing for low-income families in rural and urban America. Global Communities began working abroad in the 60s, and today, the organization implements a variety of programs in the areas of economic development; micro, small and medium enterprise (SME) and housing finance; governance and urban development; construction and infrastructure; civil society and municipal development; global health and emergency response. In 2012, the organization changed its name to Global Communities to better reflect its mission and activities working with communities around the world.Global Communities' mission is to "create long-lasting, positive and community-led change that improves the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable people across the globe."Development means improving the economic, social and environmental conditions of communities in developing and unstable countries. In practical terms development means, for example: increasing the prosperity of a country from the individual, family and community levels up; empowering people to participate in their own governance, and building the resilience of people against challenges. Ultimately, the people best suited to decide what a community needs are the people of the community itself. This type of long-term, sustainable development leads to stability and security, reduces incentives to violence, reduces vulnerability to natural disasters and decreases the amount of time it takes to recover from natural and man-made emergencies. These changes benefit not only the people of the community, but the whole world.
