About the Role

myAgro is going through a period of growth as we move into a phase of scaling operations. To continue on this trajectory, we’re looking for a qualified Deputy COO to who will report to the Managing Director, Operations and work across the entire organization to drive performance improvement. The Deputy COO will have an immediate impact on productivity, streamlining strategic projects, overseeing the development of our supply chain capability, and coordinating processes between teams and departments across the countries of operation.

You have experience in a payments, operations ( e.g. supply chain) or performance improvement role, with a background in scaling operations and interdepartmental collaboration.

As Deputy COO, you have delegated authority from the MD Operations and will translate the myAgro vision into tangible improvements in the way we work and create impact to our farmers.

Responsibilities

  • You will assume direct responsibility for the support and oversight of Global Ops departments. This means leading the Managers and Associates who work on process improvement, Payments, Data Quality, Business Analytics.
  • You know how to structure and scale operations and teams. You will be focused on supporting different parts of the business in improving operations and in building for scale.
  • Lead a team to collect thousands of payments monthly, ensuring this happens increasingly on mobile money, and partnering with providers to harmonize payments and receipt. You will build better ways to ensure and digitize payments
  • You’ll work with the Business Analytics team to improve processes across the organization and identify new opportunities for scale and effectiveness.
  • You will ensure seamless movement of payments from the farmer to myAgro by improving processes, compliance and transparency
  • You facilitate a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and working on opportunities for process enhancement, working with teams such as commercial, customer success, finance, and the people team.
  • You will oversee a portfolio of strategic projects that help accelerate growth or unlock bottlenecks.

Your Background

  • You have 10+ years management operations and 5 years in VP or director level positions in a global company. You understand how to build excellence in across multiple departments.
  • You are analytical and enjoy solving complex operational problems
  • You are able to improve business performance by applying critical thinking
  • You know how to work with different teams and can operate in a sophisticated environment leading multiple projects and partners
  • You are fluent in English and already speak or want to learn French.

myAgro is a not-for-profit social enterprise that works in rural Mali to help farmers get out of poverty.Mali is one of the poorest -and fastest growing- countries in the world. Over 70% of the population works in agriculture. but Mali still has to import 20 - 40% of its grain. If Malian farmers had the right inputs, Mali could feed itself and a host of farmer families could climb out of abject poverty. A big part of the problem is that farm cash flow is very uneven and it is hard to save.myAgro farmers can save for inputs throughout the year, when they have money towards fertilizer, seed and training. Farmers can buy “planting cards” at their local village store when they have money, much like they buy mobile phone airtime cards. The vendor sends an SMS to myAgro, which puts the money in their account to redeem for seeds and fertilizer at the beginning of the planting season.At harvest time, myAgro will offer technical training and small loans to help farmers improve labor productivity -to buy a local seeding machine, or to rent an ox and plow- and connect farmers to urban markets. myAgro will help farmers sell their surplus harvests and incentivize farmers to use part of their profits to start saving immediately for next season.
