Plan International is evolving in response to shifts in international development and humanitarian response, We are foing this so we can continue to make a stand for children’s rights. Having identified girls adn the most margisnalised group, they will be our on-going focus as we work towards helping 100 million girls learn, leas, decide and thrive within their communities.

Plan International started working in Liberia in 1981 and resumed operations in 2007 after the end of the second civil war.

Today Plan International Liberia is one of the leading girls and child-centred organisations in the country. We work in the counties of Lofa, Nimba, Bomi, Margibi and Montesrrado to reach the most marginalised children and young people.

This is an exciting time for Plan International Liberia as we embark on a new country strategy for 2019-2024. The Deputy Country Director – Programmes (DCDP) is a truly influential position. In this new role for you will help to realise our vision by supporting the Country Director in shaping and implementing the new country strategy. Your talents as a leader and communicator will inspire Plan International employees and volunteers while engaging partners, government, local communities and our other stakeholders. And, on an operational level, you will bring a focused approach to key responsibilities such as risk management, income growth, the disbursement of project funds and the oversight of projects. With a focus on resource mobilisation, the DCDP will lead on increasing our portfolio for gender transformative programmes

As DCDP you will be a core member of the Country Leadership Team (CLT), managing a hjgh performing team to deliver Plan International’s programme and influencing work, creating positive change for girls through advocacy and campaigns and ensuring that we are able to respond to the emergency and development needs of the most marginalised children.

With a demonstrable commitment to gender equality, you will lead by example in ensuring gender equality is evident in everything we do, working with your team to build a culture that ensures we are champions for girls and gender equality.

Do you have what it takes?

As DCDP, you will have strong people management skills, be adept at developing people, building relationships, and creating a strong sense of purpose and collaboration for all those around you. You will bring genuine passion, determination, and fresh thinking to our work – with the aim of expanding both our reach and our impact, and making change work for millions of children, particularly girls.

Your deep understanding of child rights and gender in development and knowledge of the concepts of sustainable community development and of participatory approaches and practice in development interventions will be essential. Experience of working in Liberia or a country in a similar political context would be very beneficial for this position. To be successful in this role you will also require solid programme management experience and significant exposure to business development.

Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency in French is desirable.

Plan International is an international organisation or development which works in 51 countries across Africa, the Americas, and Asia to promote the safeguarding of children.It is a nonprofit organisation and is one of the world's largest organisations based on children, it works in 58,000 communities with the help of volunteers to improve how 56 million children live. The charity also has 21 national organisations who have been given the responsibility to oversee the raising of funds and awareness in their individual countries.

The organisation puts an emphasis on communities working together in order to address the needs of children around the world. The NGO focuses on child participation, education, economic security, emergencies, health, protection, sexual health (including HIV), and water and sanitation. It provides training in disaster preparedness, response and recovery, and has worked on relief efforts in countries including Haiti, Colombia and Japan.

Plan International also sponsors the Because I Am a Girl campaign, which has published many stories focusing on the struggle of young women in the developing world.

Plan International was founded during the Spanish Civil War by British journalist John Langdon-Davies and aid worker Eric Muggeridge. When they witnessed the conflict change the lives of children, they founded ‘Foster Parents Plan for Children in Spain’, which would later change its name to Plan International. Set up in 1937, the organisation provided food, shelter and clothing to children whose lives had been destroyed by the war.
