Deputy Director- Niger 94 views0 applications

Organisation Background:

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international charity that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.

INSO services help NGOs with their day-to-day risk management responsibilities and improve their overall situational awareness to support evidence-based humanitarian access decisions. The organisation has grown from an innovative start-up to become a globally recognised charity and a valuable component of the humanitarian safety coordination system.

Today, with more than 1000 employees globally, INSO provides daily support to 1000 NGOs operating in 14 of the world’s most insecure countries and has earned a strong reputation for its performance, principles and professionalism.

As of April 2019, INSO is registered as a charity in the Netherlands with its global headquarters now based in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

INSO Niger

Niger has been witnessing a dramatic escalation of violence at its borders for the past few years, particularly in the Tillabéry and Tahoua region where conflict dynamics from Mali and Burkina Faso are steadily spilling over and affecting civilian populations as well as occasionally impeding NGO access. INSO began delivering services indirectly and to a limited extent to NGOs in Niger through existing Central Sahel and Lake Chad Basin programmes, and formally began to establish itself in country in 2020. Starting from its coordination centre in Niamey, the project has now evolved to include two fully operational field offices, one in Tillabéry and one in Diffa. We expect to increase our presence in Tahoua in 2021 and develop further based on partner NGO demands and needs across other regions of Niger in the coming years.

More than 70 national and international NGO partners in Niger access INSO services on daily basis. Our services are funded by a large donor base including USAID-BHA, DG ECHO, the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs and FCDO.

INSO Niger is now seeking an experienced professional to join our team as Deputy Director.

It is a complex and ever changing dynamic involving a host of considerations and challenges.INSO works to support the first side of this equation - NGOs accessing populations in need - by improving situational awareness and enabling humanitarians to make more evidence-based access decisions.Of course, situational awareness alone does not create humanitarian access - and can do the opposite - but where NGOs are seeking to expand access high quality, relevant and up to date safety information has been shown to play a vital role in the process.AccountabilityAny co-operation mechanism is only as good as the participation it enjoys from its members, which is why all INSO platforms are started and monitored by the humanitarian communities they serve through a voluntary Advisory Board. Each Advisory Board represents the NGO community towards INSO in that country and holds concrete powers to set the services and monitor INSO's performance in delivering them. This simple yet highly effective mechanism guarantees transparency, participation and accountability even as the context changes.Internally, INSO ensures the confidential management of information and registration processes and provides a comprehensive internal policy environment that guarantees accountability and protects against risk.ImpactSince 2011, INSO has revolutionized the humanitarian safety coordination sector by introducing a robust and high quality field safety platform model that has been deployed in some of the world’s most high-risk settings. The strong focus on humanitarian principles and exclusive NGO-only membership criteria have caused INSO to become generally accepted as a standard component of modern humanitarian response offering independent frontline reporting and coordination services that save lives, strengthen operational practice and enable humanitarian access.
