Development worker as advisor (m/f/d) on peace-oriented media work in eastern Congo

Job description

The project advises civil society organisations in eastern Congo on using media work (radio, new media) to foster non-violent conflict resolution and gender equality. The aim is to help change the climate of violence that has prevailed in the region for the past two decades and to prepare the ground for peaceful societal development. This vacancy is therefore strongly integrated into the activities with civil society organisations carried out by the Supporting Peace and Stability in Eastern Congo project, of which media work is just one part.

Your tasks

  • Supporting radio stations in their work
  • Training journalists in designing programmes with a peace and gender focus while taking into account the principle of doing no harm
  • Supporting partner organisations, including in using new media
  • Building the capacity of civil society partner organisations and media professionals to disseminate peace-related messages
  • Supporting the use of the media to disseminate peacebuilding and non-violent conflict resolution strategies and to promote gender equality
  • Working closely with private radio stations and training media professionals in peace journalism
  • Fostering cooperation between various radio stations and networking them with civil society organisations

Your profile

  • University-level degree in media studies, political science, development studies or a similar subject
  • Several years of experience of working in peace journalism, particularly in the radio sector, and ideally also of using new media
  • Expertise and work experience in gender empowerment, women, peace and security, and peacebuilding is desirable
  • Regional experience in sub-Saharan Africa would be an advantage
  • Fluent business French and good English skills required; knowledge of Swahili and German would be an advantage
