PSI seeks a Driver to join our team for the USAID-funded Countywide Sanitation Activity. The project aims to achieve universal coverage of basic sanitation in five counties of Liberia. This ambitious project seeks equally ambitious staff who bring creativity, energy, and an entrepreneurial spirit to their work.

The Driver will be responsible for driving PSI staff, partners, and authorized visitors from one place to another. This position is also responsible for transporting PSI goods and parcels as may be required.

Your contribution

  • Drive PSI vehicle(s) and execute the tasks as assigned by the Warehouse and Fleet manager and other PSI/Liberia personnel as required;
  • Assist in the collection/delivery of goods, documents, mails, and materials as assigned;
  • Ensure the safety of passengers, cargo, and vehicle and observe traffic rules and road discipline;
  • Inspect vehicle every morning before departure;
  • Check daily status of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc. and maintain a check list and be accountable for the items;
  • Report promptly any defects or malfunctioning of the vehicle that require immediate attention;
  • Comply strictly with vehicle servicing schedules and notify fleet manager at least one week in advance for booking purposes;
  • Immediately report and inform the Director of Admin and Finance of vehicle/road accidents encountered and obtain police reports;
  • Maintain the vehicle log sheet at all times;
  • Maintain fuel card and only use it for fuel, lubricants, puncture repair the vehicle at every end of the month;
  • Ensure cleanliness of the vehicle at all times; and
  • Ensure that the PSI vehicle(s) is only used for official/authorized business.

What are we looking for?

  • Valid driving certificate
  • Valid Driving license
  • Completed Secondary Education
  • At least 2 years’ relevant driving experience
  • Defensive driving
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic and analytical skills
  • Must have work authorization for Liberia, PSI will not sponsor work permits.

HISTORY

PSI was founded in 1970 to improve reproductive health using commercial marketing strategies. For its first 15 years, PSI worked mostly in family planning (hence the name Population Services International). In 1985, it started promoting oral rehydration therapy. PSI’s first HIV prevention project — which promoted abstinence, fidelity and condoms — began in 1988. PSI added malaria and safe water to its portfolio in the 1990s and tuberculosis in 2004.

HEALTH IMPACT

PSI has an uncompromising focus on measurable health impact and measures its effect on disease and death much like a for-profit measures its profits. Just last year PSI saved the lives of 9,246 mothers, prevented 3,896,671 unintended pregnancies, stopped 234,367 new HIV infections, and avoided 379,286 deaths due to diseases like malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia that most threaten young children.

World headquarters in Washington, D.C., programs in more than 50 countries, European office in Amsterdam.

More than 8,900 staff work for PSI and its affiliates. PSI’s expatriate staff is about 1% of the overall workforce. Support services and advocacy are provided by staff in Washington, D.C., and Amsterdam, Netherlands.
