Job Description

  • Provide driving/transport service to the concern staffs/visitors as per the direction from the immediate line manager.
  • Understand and practice Concern Worldwide-Ethiopia relevant policies, rules and regulations such as transport and security, fleet management policy, HR policies, Programme Participants and Protection policy & Code of Conduct. If these regulations are unclear bring it to the attention of your supervisor.
  • Always maintain the vehicle clean and neat to provide comfort for passengers.
  • Drive the vehicles in a safe and appropriate manner in accordance with Ethiopia road transport regulation as well as Concern Ethiopia transport and security policy/procedures.
  • Maintain updated vehicle movement logbook records for all journeys undertaken at all time and ensure authorized travelers are signed for the journey that they used.
  • Record fuel refilled and other costs such as repair costs in the logbook.
  • Ensure Concern safety standards e.g.  Daily and weekly safety checks are done at all time before starting the journey.
  • Monitor vehicle’s periodical service schedule and ensure the vehicle is serviced in due time.
  • Maintain all safety and security measures to the vehicle and passengers. Ensure the vehicle is parked in safe, appropriate and secured area.
  • Ensure that seat belt are fasten in all time while driving including passengers
  • Respects the local traffic rules and regulations strictly.
  • Keep all tools, spare tyre and other safety & healthy equipment’s with due care.
  • Report any accident or security incidents as occurred immediately to your line manager and fill the incident report form.

Job Requirements

  •  At least third grade valid driving license.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in international NGOs, UNs or government Institutions with clean driving record.
  • Excellent time management/ time keeping experience and dedication to respect others time schedule.
  • Willingness or able to work long hours with national & international staffs
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills.
  • Good command of oral communication in English.

               Acceptable writing skill in English

          Others can be considered as advantage

  • Able to do minor vehicle maintenance
  • Trained in Safety and Security standards/protocols

Concern was founded by John and Kay O’Loughlin-Kennedy in 1968, as a response to the famine in the Nigerian province of Biafra. The famine was largely precipitated by the conflict that followed Biafra’s attempt to secede from Nigeria.

John’s brother, Father Raymond Kennedy, a Holy Ghost Priest, had returned to Ireland from Nigeria with news about the plight of people in Biafra where widespread famine was becoming a reality due to the Nigerian blockade of food, medicines, fuel and basic necessities.

John, Kay and Raymond held a press conference in the Shelbourne Hotel to raise awareness and funds. This allowed them send the first ‘mercy flight’ to Biafra.

But much more was needed,  some weeks later a larger meeting was called in the home of John and Kay, Africa Concern was formed and the fundraising continued.

Send One Ship

Africa Concern with the Knights of Columbanus launched an appeal in June 1968 for the famine in Biafra with the slogan "Send One Ship".

Becoming Concern

On 29 September, a 600 tonne ship named the Columcille arrived at Sao Tome, a Portuguese island off the coast of Biafra, filled with vital supplies of powdered food, medicines, and batteries. In 1970, a huge cyclone hit East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and the public were asked to respond. Africa Concern simply became Concern.
