Following the devastation caused to life, livelihoods and property by tropical storm Idai in March 2019, the WB has allocated up to US$ 72 million to finance a recovery project for Zimbabwe and the African Development Bank has allocated US$ 25 million to finance socioeconomic recovery in Zimbabwe. The projects addresses both early and mid-term recovery needs in multiple sectors (livelihoods, health, education, agriculture and infrastructure). UNOPS has been requested to establish a multiple project in Zimbabwe to assist with the recovery of the selected areas in Zimbabwe that were most affected by the storm.

There are multiple projects and sections that require Drivers including the World Bank funded Zimbabwe Hurricane Idai Recovery Project (ZIRP) and the AFDB funded Socioeconomic Recovery Project.

The drivers required will be for the locations of Mutare, Chimanimani and Chipinge.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the guidance and supervision of the PM ,PIU the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to project team and visitors, ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver has a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Upon request of the supervisor, the Driver can be also required to provide driving services to ZIRP operations.

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services
  • Proper use of vehicle
  • Day-to-day maintenance and cleaning of the assigned vehicle
  • Availability of documents/ supplies
  • Immediate action in case of accident

Provides reliable and secure driving services by

  1. a) driving office vehicles for the project team and visitors
  2. b) collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items; and c) meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.

Ensures proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle 
by checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tries, etc.; performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs; and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean.

Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies
 including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.

Ensures that
 immediate steps as required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.

Impact of Results

The key results have an impact on the accurate, safe and timely execution of the UNOPS services.

Education

Completion of secondary school or equivalent; drivers training with a valid driver’s license is required

Drivers License (valid, with 2-year safe-driving record) (Required).

Experience

Two years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record.
Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs
Driving and Vehicle Maintenance skills are required

Languages

Fluency in written and oral English is required.
