The Program Director will oversee all aspects of program and business development in UMR’s East Africa Regional Office. Our country portfolio consists of Kenya and Somalia with planned expansion to Sudan, South Sudan, and Ethiopia. S/he will focus on providing leadership, strategic guidance, and collaboration among USG entities, AU/IGAD, the United Nations, the private sector, and local stakeholders. S/he will lead the technical development of UMR programs, identify funding opportunities, and develop the UMR East Africa programs team.

Key Accountability

·       Lead the development of UMR East Africa’s program portfolio with respect to thematic priorities of: health, education, and livelihood development with cross sectoral considerations of: GBV, PwD, MHPSS, community health, and basic needs

·       Expand UMR’s network of partnerships and associations to increase access to funding opportunities and raise organization visibility among key stakeholders

·       Hire and develop a range of office staff members and invest in developing leaders

·       Lead the East Africa programs: recommend new initiatives based on community needs, funding available, and organizational capacity

·       Identify public and private partnerships that will enhance services delivered to UMR clients

·       Represent UMR mission with poise and professionalism

·       Perform duties as needed.

 

 

Qualifications

·       6+ years of experience in program design, grant capture management, facilitation of public/private partnerships, and cross sectoral coordination

·       Master’s Degree in relevant field (e.g Business Administration, Public Relations, Communications)

·       Excellent verbal communication, fluency in local/regional dialects highly preferred.

·       Significant connections in the development industry

·       Ability to pragmatically and diplomatically solve problems in a way that is sensitive to culture, language, and political concerns

·       Technical experience is project and budgetary management as well as resource mobilization

Experience

·       Experience with USAID or other government institutions a plus

·       Experience working in highly regarded development institution in the non-profit sector
