The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Ethiopia is looking to hire an experienced, highly motivated and qualified person to fill the position of  Economic Security Generalist I

Position Title: Economic Security Generalist I (background on Livestock)

 

Main Tasks

  • Contributes to understand the general situation and humanitarian issues around project locations.
  • Knows the ICRC vulnerability criteria and working methodologies and applies them in given circumstances.
  • Participates in planning, implementation and monitoring of specific EcoSec projects(livestock interventions, agricultural projects or income generating activities; emergency response with non-food items or cash).
  • Participates in organizing field trips and participates to field trips as part of a team, or individually.
  • Participates in assessment, beneficiary selection/verification, follow-up and implementation of activities, monitoring and evaluation of projects.
  • Collects data, enters data into databases, performs basic analysis and provides reports according to procedures and timelines.
  • Contributes to various internal reports (operational reports, FTR, monthly statistics).
  • Represents the ICRC in relevant meetings, seminar and workshop, at local level.
  • Maintains contacts with external interlocutors such as authorities at local level, local RC branches, humanitarian organizations, etc.
  • Performs administrative tasks according to internal procedures.
  • Facilitates the exchange of information between EcoSec and other departments on EcoSec issues pertaining to the area of competency.
  • Observes and follows the ICRC code of conduct.

Job Requirements

Educational Background & Work Experience

  • University degree in Veterinary Science or Animal Sciences.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in livestock-related activities (assessment, implementation and monitoring), including drought-response livestock interventions.
  • Very good knowledge of the context, geography and culture of the Somali region.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of humanitarian issues.
  • Good analytical, communication, reporting and networking skills.
  • Willingness to travel and readiness to spend 50-75% of the time in the field.
  • Very good command (spoken and written) of English, Amharic and Somali language.
  • Driving license with proven driving experience.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a humanitarian institution based in Geneva, Switzerland and a three-time Nobel Prize Laureate. State parties (signatories) to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols of 1977 (Protocol I, Protocol II) and 2005 have given the ICRC a mandate to protect victims of international and internal armed conflicts.
