English Teaching Volunteer Needed in Uganda 1344 views0 applications

Beacon of Hope Uganda is looking for a volunteer English teacher for our local primary school in Uganda. This is an enriching and satisfying experience where the volunteer get the opportunity to teach children who are eager to improve their conversational English skills.

Beacon of Hope Uganda operates primary schools in needy communities in Uganda. The Volunteer will work primarily as an instructor of English in our school. The Volunteer may also be asked to assist in other school activities such as sports and other extra-curricular projects

The placement consists of teaching the subject of English to school children for 2 to 4 lessons of a day, with each period running for 45 minutes.

The English volunteer teacher will be required to teach 5 days a week. Saturday and Sunday are days off for the volunteer to enjoy some free time and there are occasional public holidays during the school term.
Depending on school size, class numbers vary from 15-60 in a class.

A local teacher will assist you in conducting classes during your first week to address any language barriers or concerns that may arise. You will be asked to run the class once the children become familiar with you.
The Volunteer shouldn’t be concerned about what to teach, as all schools in Uganda follow a curriculum that can be implicated in teaching.

However, if one is confident enough, you are more than welcome to apply your own teaching blueprint. If you have additional skills in extra-curricular activities such as: teaching games, music, painting, singing, dancing, yoga, martial arts etc, then you are most welcome to incorporate this into the teaching English program .

"Ssamba Foundation is a registered non-profit community development organization founded by Hon. Isaac Ssamba in Mukono, Uganda. Operating in Mukono district, we have managed a wide range of sustainable development and humanitarian projects since 2006.
Hon. Ssamba’s mission of helping those least able to help themselves started at the age of 14 and at the age of 19, he established a non-government organization which designs and conducts programs which contribute to the welfare and social productivity of disadvantaged individuals and communities with an emphasis on children, youth and women.
Ssamba Foundation addresses some of the most pervasive problems in rural Uganda, including poor healthcare systems, hunger, poor education system, access to clean drinking water, environment degradation and extreme poverty.
In addition, the foundation focuses on empowering the youth of Uganda through leadership and skills training.  The organization is founded on the principles that our common humanity is more important than our individual differences.  We therefore operate on a non-political, non-denominational, and non-sectarian basis, welcoming each and every Ugandan in need.
The focus of our programs is on providing resources for quality social services delivery in under-resourced communities of Uganda.  In order to uplift the youngest of our society however, it is often necessary to first assist adults and the communities in which they live. Ssamba Foundation is committed to our headquarters district of Mukono, Uganda. The foundation is committed to making an impact in Mukono through Strategic Community Investments by supporting causes that strengthen community development focus.
