  • By constantly identifying and prioritizing opportunities for program improvement and by providing constructive feedback, you push the entire team, including the CD, to dream bigger, execute better and maximize our Social Return on Investment (“SROI”).
  • You step up to fill critical leadership needs in various departments and you represent country leadership in a variety of settings.
  • You’re a thought partner to the CD on the Ethiopia team structure and workload balancing. Together you critically evaluate our staffing structure in the light of country priorities so that we always solve for the most important challenges and opportunities that One Acre Fund -Ethiopia is faced with.

  • Together with key leaders, you build up our Leadership Committee to become a transparent and efficient decision-making body of the organization, which is focused on setting high level annual goals as well as creating long-term strategy.
  • Given excellent performance, the DCD is the direct succession plan to the CD.

Lead Tree Program Impact and Growth

  • Your role will evolve over time depending on internal and external conditions – the CD and DCD are expected to drive farmer impact, cost efficiency and team satisfaction, as such you will be directly responsible for our core program.
  • In 2018, our Agroforestry Program grew from serving 800 farmers to 9735 farmers. We grew rapidly in order to rigorously test several innovative tree production methods and now we intend to bring our field operations up to a higher level of excellence so that we don’t miss out on the vast opportunity that trees offer to Ethiopian farmers. • In these 3-6+ month rotations, you tackle key strategic initiatives and learn the “field” of different departments. During rotations, you might revise our HR manual, research new seed varieties, develop a staff inclusion program, improve our audit compliance, build up a deputy, improve our logistics systems or be a thought partner on government relations strategy.
  • During these rotations, we expect you to establish and cultivate strong relationships with your staff to ensure a sense of community and that all staff can maximize their career performance and job satisfaction as part of the One Acre Fund team.

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
