SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for a Family Strengthening and Donor Contract Management Coordinator who will be responsible for ensuring that the cluster projects activities are being implemented effectively, and that relevant project stakeholders at all levels are fully engaged.

Your role….

As a Family Strengthening and Donor Contract Management Coordinator, you will be in charge of the following:

  • Participating in the development of concept notes and project proposals
  • Participating in the appraisal of project proposals that were developed by other parties
  • Participating in the review of program strategies and approaches
  • Closely overseeing the implementation of a specific project as assigned by the National Program Director
  • Verifying that Family and Community Development  projects are implemented in accordance with the quality standards of SOS CVs
  • Providing on-site awareness raising or capacity building support to relevant program staff where gaps in quality management exist
  • Supporting Locations in their effort of undertaking baseline study
  • In collaboration with the National MERA Manager, undertakes periodic project monitoring activities
  • Supporting in the recruitment of consultants for terminal evaluation of projects under his/her portfolio and joins the consultant during field work, if need be
  • Handling all communications from respective PSAs or donors that seek information or clarification about the project
  • Identifying, documents and sharing key program learnings.
  • Providing leadership for the successful execution of the project
  • Coordinating and synergizing the efforts of his team towards the achievements of the objectives of the project
  • Following  up and appraising the performance of colleagues in his/her team and provides them immediate and relevant feedback
  • Facilitating the training and development of colleagues under his supervision
  • Ensuring that budgets are used for intended purposes and they are spent in accordance with approved procedures and limits and donor requirements
  • Developing   a mechanism for management of institutional contracts.
  • Ensuring that all funding files, (electronic, system and paper) are complete and kept up to date.
  • Providing advice to ensure synergy in donor budgeting, contract management and reporting.
  • Developing and implementing an institutional fundraising and partnership strategy in line with the needs of SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia and ensure this is infused within the national plans
  • Reviewing and implementing the recommendations of the donor market survey
  • Establishing and maintaining regular contact with donors by organizing donor roundtables, face to face meetings, attending donor forums etc
  • Representing SOS CV Ethiopia in sector level meetings (development and humanitarian/emergency) and other networking forums and use this to aggressively develop funding partnerships

The must haves:

  • BA/MA Degree in Project Management Sociology, , Development studies, Economics or related streams
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience out of which 2 years in supervisory
  • Experience working with our target group, i.e. vulnerable children, families and community
  • Excellent command of English, written and spoken
  • Strong technical understanding and experience working on community empowerment, household economic empowerment or livelihood development
  • Leadership experience that includes coaching staff to high levels of performance & perform effectively as a team & engaging in effective cross-cultural & cross-functional working to achieve shared goals.
  • Strong knowledge of Development theory, policy and practice, with a good knowledge of technical sectors, relief, advocacy & fundraising
  • Experience of developing, implementing and monitoring strategic and operational plans within a demanding organization
  • Confident competency in budget and financial management and monitoring with multiple stakeholders;
  • Experience in project management, planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in developing, implementing and reviewing participatory planning, monitoring and evaluation processes. Demonstrated ability to incorporate results of these activities into project design and implementation
  • Experience in financial management, including the ability to develop, read and manage budgets; and rapidly spot potential issues and solutions
  • Good knowledge and understanding of children’s rights and rights-based approaches in the development of programmes
  • Awareness and understanding of social development issues including gender, education, health, livelihood, HIV/AIDS, etc.
  • Proven experience in stimulating successful delivery of the project by all team members as well as staff development, creating open and collaborative team environments that encourages the contributions of the whole team
