The total salary package for this position is £47,254 (approx.$63,000) per annum including basic salary, hardship allowance, programme management allowance and cost of living allowance.

About the programme:

MAG has been active in Angola for more than 20 years clearing landmines and other explosive remnants of war. The programme currently operates in the east of Angola in Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte provinces. Landmine clearance operations are focussed in Moxico, some of the poorest and most marginalised communities in the country. Our focus is to improve the security and wellbeing of these communities by returning safe land for productive use. In the future, we also plan to develop small Arms Management and Destruction (AMD) projects. We are seeking to recruit a Finance and Support Services Manager to help successfully design, implement, manage and monitor the finances, systems and processes

About the role:

Reporting to the Country Director, the Finance and Support Services Manager will be a member of the programmes’ Senior Management Team, and provide strategic and operational financial leadership to the MAG programme, including control of expenditure, budgeting, cash flow management, financial reporting and identification of financial liabilities. In addition, the role will include the management of support services including Human Resources, Procurement, Administration, and IT ensuring system design, implementation and continuous improvement in line with MAG policies, good practice and donor guidelines.

About you:

You will need to be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA etc.), or qualified by experience in a similar role. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to report in a timely and accurate manner, the ability to work independently and build excellent working relationship with project stakeholders. The successful candidate will have relevant overseas experience in the NGO sector at a senior level and will also have experience of managing projects including implementation, monitoring and evaluation and contract compliance. It is essential that you are fluent in Portuguese (preferred) or Spanish (written, spoken and reading). We are looking for people who are innovative, proactive and solutions-focussed, who have excellent communication skills, and who have a track record of delivering high quality finance and support services.

This role will involve support and travel between all of our bases within the Angola programme that are often remote with basic amenities and therefore applicants will need to be able to deal with living and working in challenging environments.

The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is a non-governmental organization that assists people affected by landmines, unexploded ordnance, and small arms and light weapons.

MAG takes a humanitarian approach to landmine action. They focus on the impact of their work on local communities. This approach recognises that although the number of landmines in an area may be small, the effect on a community can be crippling. Targets are therefore determined locally, in response to liaison with affected communities, and local authorities.MAG field operations are managed and implemented by nationals of the affected countries, with MAG expatriate staff taking a monitoring and training role.
