Sightsavers are currently looking to recruit an experienced Finance Officer to perform various duties and responsibilities directly related to accounting, project finance, procurement and general office administrative functions of the ELFA (Eliminating Lymphatic Filariasis in Africa) project.

Location: Soroti, Uganda

Contract: Two-year fixed-term contract

Salary: Local Terms and Conditions apply

The post-holder, in collaboration with colleagues, will continually ensure quality and consistency of financial management and administration for the ELFA project. The role supports accounting and programme finance, procurement and stores and general administration.

Key duties will include:

  • Supporting and strengthening partners capacity to effectively manage project funds including budgeting/ forecasting and ensuring that spending is as per MOUs/PFAs.
  • Working with the Project Coordinator to process partners fund requests, ensure that monthly partner financial reports are made promptly and consolidate partners financial reports into one monthly project report.
  • Carrying out regular Partner Financial Visits and follow-up on implementation of recommendations arising from the project visit and the partner management
  • Planning and managing purchases of project supplies and office consumable
  • Organising and controlling logistics of goods and supplies
  • Sourcing suppliers and analysing quotations
  • Maintaining and updating the fixed assets register good and operational
  • Coordinating the renewal of business licenses, vehicle insurance policies, fire safety and service agreements for office equipment and coordination of lease agreement renewals

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role and:

  • A degree in accounting, finance, business administration or equivalent qualifications. Having a professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA will be an added advantage.
  • Working experience in Accounting/ Procurement and Office Administration role
  • Excellent computer skills especially Word, Excel and e-mail/internet
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written English)
  • A high degree of integrity
  • Fluent spoken and written English and Swahili
  • Current and ongoing right to work in Uganda
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

The Finance Officer ELF is a highly varied and involved role and the above is not an exhaustive list of duties or required professional skills.

The interview process will be in two stages. The first stage will be completion of a written task, lasting up to one hour. Successful candidates at this stage will then be invited to an onsite interview also lasting up to one hour. The interviews are intended to commence from mid-November onwards.
