ZOA is an international relief and recovery organization supporting vulnerable people affected by violent conflicts and natural disasters in fragile states, by helping them to realize dignified and resilient lives. ZOA operates in more than 15 countries, in difficult locations where our field staff directly provides assistance to the most vulnerable victims of displacement. The countries in which ZOA is present are Afghanistan, Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Liberia, Myanmar, Philippines, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Uganda and Yemen. ZOA is active in insecure and volatile regions: serving Syrian refugees in the Middle East, uprooted people in war-torn South Sudan, displaced Yezidis in Northern Iraq and South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia, to name a few.
ZOA started operations in Nigeria December 2016, supporting IDPs and returnees of Boko Haram affected states. In the selection of the beneficiaries, we pay careful attention to include the most vulnerable households. Continuously promoting community governance, inclusion, peace, and stability in these fragmented and traumatized communities is a challenging but essential part of ZOA’s programme.
ZOA currently has full team in Borno State, respond to the critical needs in Food Security and livelihood and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Education as well.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Finance Officer
Location: Maiduguri, Borno

Summary
Internal:
- The Finance Officer is supporting the Finance Manager for all financial systems, compliance and to support smooth organizational functioning and effective financial management.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Reviewing financial records and reports to detect irregularities or issues may need further attention or clarity.
- Ensure that an efficient and effective financial system is maintained in line with the ZOA policies and guidelines;
- Complying with government regulations regarding financial activities such as taxation, social securities, pensions and insurance etc. Ensure monthly remittance of statutory deductions: PAYE, WHT, Pension, NHF, NISTF etc).
- Monitor the budget spent according to the program of work timelines, conduct periodic (quarterly) budgetary analysis and report to the Finance Manager on expenditure trends, budgetary corrections, if required;
- Recommending changes to policies or procedures to comply with new laws or regulations.
- Responsible for timely transactions booking in ERP (Unit 4); ensure accuracy and completeness of documents.
- Ensure document compliance to ZOA accounting and procurement manuals before payment is initiated.
- Ensure adherence to EFCC SCUML, cash withdrawal and movement notification, and other project information that is to be shared with the agency.
- Review of procurement documents, requests, contract and other payment documents as may be delegated from time to time by Finance Manager.
- Support Finance Manager during quarter closure, budget and forecast development.
- Maintain files; including filling of general ledger, payment vouchers, account payable documentation and Other miscellaneous payments.
- Reviewing financial records and reports to detect irregularities or issues may need further attention or clarity.
- Ensure that an efficient and effective financial system is maintained in line with the ZOA policies and guidelines;
- Maintain cordial relationship with the staff member and treat visitors, guest and program beneficiaries with courtesy.
- Conduct him/her both professionally and personally in such a manner that it will bring credit to ZOA and not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
- Any other duty that is reasonably consistent with the key tasks of the function.
Competencies
- University Degree or equivalent (minimally HND, BSc/BA, Finance and Accounting, Business Management or relevant field;
- Proven working experience of at least 2 – 3 years in the relevant field;
- Affinity with humanitarian work and International NGO’s;
- Excellent spoken and written command of English and developing sound memos for both internal and external;
- Excellent computer skills (accounting systems, Excel, Word, ERP (Unit 4), and PowerPoint.
