About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 11 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131  District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee  and 5871 Kebele Red Cross  committees.

Job Purpose:

The Finance Officer will provide support to the Regional Finance and Admin Head in all aspects of financial management for Austrian Red Cross (AutRC) funded projects. This includes support in the day to day management of finances in applicable systems and adherence to policies and procedures consistent with the statutory requirements.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate accounting, authorizations and internal control procedures are met for all payments.
  • Review and check the completeness and accuracy of monthly financial reports and supporting documents submitted by projects.
  • Organize monthly document expenditure vouchers and supporting documents chronologically and perform bookings in the organization’s accounting system.
  • Scan/copy all the vouchers and rename all the scanned documents according to its booking key (number).
  • Work closely with ERCS HQ and branch accountants to provide support when needed.
  • Meet internal reporting deadlines and communicate with ERCS and project accountants to deliver reports /financial document in a timely manner.
  • support in the preparation of financial reports as required.
  • Manage cash flow to country office and projects.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support as required.
  • Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities assigned by line manager.

  • Must be able to work independently;
  • Firm belief in teamwork
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – builds good relationships and maintain effective collaboration with all staff
  • Ability to manage a complex and demanding workload
  • Be proactive and self-controlled

Terms of employment: Contract for one year after probationary period 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum B.A in Accounting/Business/ Management from recognized university/College (any professional qualification will be an added advantage)

Work Experience:

  • At least 6 years work experience in finance (NGO experience will be an added value)
  • Result oriented and team player
  • Excellent at computer skills: Microsoft Offices and Accounting software
  • Proficiency of English and Amharic in speaking and writing.
