Location: Yei

Terre des hommes does not set closing dates for this position; recruitment is on-going until the position is filled

Context:

Juba became the world newest national capital on the 9th July 2011, when South Sudan formally declared its independence from the Republic of Sudan. In December 2013 a conflict broke out between the President (Salva Kiir) and former Vice President (Riek Machar). Numerous ceasefires were mediated between the SPLA (Sudan’s People Liberation Army) and SPLA- IO (in opposition) but were subsequently broken. In August 2015 an Agreement of the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan was signed between the parties in conflict, nevertheless the violence never stopped in the country and the metaphorical road toward real peace still looks very difficult. In November 2016, following massive displacement of population and start of the conflict in Equatoria, Tdh launched an assessment in Yei to determine the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected population. Tdh has opened a new base in Yei and started activities early 2017. Tdh launched a new assessment in Lainya counties with a focus on health and nutrition in April 2017. Activities are now implemented in Yei and Lainya counties to address a great variety of needs including Health, nutrition, food security, WASH and protection, both in Yei city and in Lainya, in collaboration with local partners. A food security Livelihood project is about to be launched in Yei and Tdh is therefore looking for an experienced project manager who will be responsible for the management and implementation of the project implemented in Yei. The position has a double dimension: the implementation of activities, including day-to-day management and long-term planning, and the provision of technical reference for the Food Security and Livelihoods sector in the mission. A new Program aiming at prolonging our intervention has been ongoing since August 2017 with an ending date of July 2018. Tdh also implementing a child protection project which will be ended on January 2019. The challenges for this new project will be obviously to maintain the current level of assistance (and being able to answer to the constant movement of the population in and around the country) as well as to sustain the facilities, to increase the involvement of the community. Apart from inhabitants inside the city, Tdh will support the surrounding communities from upcoming project as well. Access to the villages / outside town both for the expatriate and national staffs could be restricted which is another challenge in the management of the activities. To date the security situation in the area is stable inside the town and at a usual level outside town for south Sudan. Yei river state experimented in the past months several attacks against the security forces which is far to be unusual in the area but justifying strict security regulation in Yei. Expatriate can move by plane to Yei from Juba and stay in the city. Presence of expatriate outside city is limited following a specific movement protocol. Social contacts are not limited, several NGO allowing the presence of expatriate in the province but UNICEF, OCHA, UNHCR, MSF as well as Tdh have expatriates in Yei town and regular contacts are held with the respective teams. Since its creation in 1960, the mission of Terre des hommes has been to come to the aid of children in need. It endeavours at all times to defend the rights of children, in times of war and natural disasters, or in less publicised situations of distress.

Terre des hommes, also Terre des Hommes (Land of People, literally, Land of Men) is an international children's rights charitable humanitarian umbrella organization under the aegis of the International Federation of Terre des Hommes (TDHIF), with independent organizations in Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, and Syria.

It was founded in 1960 by Edmond Kaiser in Lausanne, Switzerland.[1] The organization is named after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's 1939 philosophical memoir "Terre des hommes" (English title: Wind, Sand and Stars). An important part of the TDHIF's work is as a consultant to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Promoting the Convention on the Rights of a Child is an important activity of Tdh.
