Since 2000, the Student Sponsorship Programme (SSP), a nonprofit trust that has provided educational opportunities to hundreds of talented South African students from low-income families to attend the best secondary schools in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape.

SSP seeks to appoint a Fundraising Director, to be based at Parktown in Johannesburg.

Report to: Executive Director

The ppurpose of the Fundraising Director is to be responsible for SSP’s business development and fundraising function encompassing: fundraising, stakeholder relationship management, grant/sponsorship management, financial management, including but not limited to, corporations, foundations, trusts, high net worth individuals and all other funding partners.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ Degree from a recognised university in Humanities or Marketing and PR or Communications or Business Administration
  • A post graduate qualification would be an added advantage
  • A recognised Monitoring and Evaluation qualification would be an added advantage
  • Minimum of two to three years’ relevant experience in an NGO and/or social enterprise environment
  • Minimum of five to ten years’ experience of successful fundraising with a proven track record of meeting a target of multi-million funds raised, per annum, in a personal capacity
  • Proven ability to prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to write excellent proposals, grant applications and detailed reports in the local and global funding context
  • Design and implementation of fundraising strategies, projects and events
  • Writing, communication and networking skills, with a flair for developing new and existing relationships with donors
  • Ability to identify and develop long-term funding streams within relevant, and prospective target markets
  • Ability to interpret CSI budgets, and analyse spending trends Understand how CSI trends impact on funding and donor behaviour
  • Knowledge of digital and crowdfunding tools and strategies
  • An understanding of corporate social investment and donor dynamics within the South African context
  • An understanding of donor dynamics in the global development context
  • Financial management / backstopping skills
  • Experience in managing teams for performance
  • Ability to persuade and negotiate
  • An interest in, and commitment to, SSP’s vision
  • Entrepreneurial attitude
  • Own vehicle and valid driver’s licence
  • Must be able to travel within South Africa regularly, and internationally, occasionally
