IRC’s Gender, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (GEDI) Council is a forum where 47 members representing employee resource groups and departments to advise IRC’s GEDI direction. The Council is home to five committees that act as advisors to IRC on issues related to GEDI and at times lead GEDI activities.

Job Overview/Summary:

The GEDI Council Officer will own the administration and internal coordination and communications efforts of the Council. Additionally, the Officer will work as a thought partner to the GEDI Council Chair and support strategic projects. Responsibilities

Planning and Strategy

  • Support efforts to strengthen relationships, collaboration, partnerships, and prioritization of most important initiatives for the GEDI Council;
  • Identify and address learning needs of the Council members including encouraging peer learning.
  • Act as lead liaison between the GEDI Council Chair and leaders across IRC, including GEDI, HR, and Safeguarding teams;
  • Collaboratively develop and as needed lead all aspects of initiatives prioritized by the Council including planning, staff management, and assuring robust execution;
  • Support the Council Chair in harmonizing and disseminating GEDI Council initiatives throughout the organization;
  • Proactively identify bottlenecks and opportunities to improve GEDI Council’s key processes and systems;
  • Assist the Council Chair and Committees to develop and monitor metrics regarding members’ engagement and activity;
  • Support the development and implementation of an organization-wide approach to enhance staff engagement to support our GEDI efforts

Communication and logistics

  • Act as the communications lead of the GEDI Council by crafting, developing and implementing effective communication strategies; Coordinate with IRC internal communication department
  • Develop original and innovative content for internal channels, such as Microsoft Teams, RescueNet pages, Newsletter and blogs;
  • Ensure Council’s initiatives and projects are effectively communicated and that messages are consistent across all mediums;
  • Provide all logistical support for GEDI Council meetings– including scheduling dates, sending invitations, ensuring live interpretation etc.
  • Independently plan, communicate and implement specific projects and initiatives from inception to completion as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in the humanitarian sector and a passion for the IRC’s mission
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be invested with internal and external partners with tact and diplomacy
  • Minimum 4 years of full-time professional work experience, with at least 2 years of experience working in administrative roles
  • Ability to coordinate, plan, schedule, identify priorities and meet project requirements
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Service-orientation and flexibility, dedication to help and support in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment
  • Ability to take initiative, function independently and navigate ambiguity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have strong attention to detail, excellent discretion, judgment, tact, initiative, creativity, critical thinking, organizational skills, and self-motivation
  • Staff engagement experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
  • Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to create effective presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of French and/or Arabic and/or Spanish is desirable but not required.

Since October 2012, the IRC has been responding to humanitarian needs of Nigerians. The IRC initially intervened in response to floods that affected over 7 million people across the country, destroying harvest and damaging homes. The IRC is currently implementing programs in Health, Protection, WASH, Nutrition, Food Security, and Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) in Adamawa and Borno States in North-Eastern Nigeria.

The IRC is dedicated to making women and adolescent girls healthier from the earliest phase of acute crises (a target group most vulnerable during crisis) and implements evidence-based reproductive health interventions in line with the SPHERE-standard Minimum Initial Service Package for Reproductive Health in Crises (MISP). The goal is to ensure that the IRC’s health responses in emergencies include the core package of Reproductive Health (RH) services in its interventions.

The IRC’s Reproductive Health (RH) program is currently implementing (MISP) for RH in 4 health care centers in MMC and Jere LGAs and 1 IDP camp clinic. In addition the program is starting up an emergency mobile programming outside of these areas of Maiduguri in coordination with the WPE team. The focus of this program is to provide quality comprehensive RH and WPE services to conflict-affected women and girls in a timely manner. In addition to the mobile program, the WPE and RH joint mobile teams will be in charge of rapid assessments and rapid response. The mobile teams will be focused in the newly opened LGAs and emergency areas previously inaccessible due to conflict and insecurity. These teams will provide life-saving services to populations outside of Maiduguri, who have not had access to services in approximately 3 years.
