Corruption Watch is a non-profit organisation launched in January 2012, relying on the public to report corruption to them. The organisation uses these reports as an important source of information to fight corruption and hold leaders accountable for their actions. Corruption Watch exposes corruption through their communications platforms and mobilises the public to take a stand against corruption and the abuse of public funds. Corruption Watch engages in impact litigation, and makes submissions to parliamentary processes and commissions.

Based in Johannesburg, Corruption Watch seeks to fill the following position:

HEAD OF LEGAL AND INVESTIGATIONS

Applicants must be experienced lawyers looking for a challenging working environment outside of traditional practice. They will have experience/interest in anti-corruption work, constitutional, administrative, procurement and media law, and will have people and financial management skills.

Key responsibilities for this exciting position include:

  • Managing Corruption Watch’s legal and investigative work
  • Influencing the legislative and policy framework governing corruption in South Africa, through research, strategic litigation, commenting on legislation and policies and writing opinion pieces, among others
  • Advising management on all legal issues affecting Corruption Watch’s work
  • Briefing counsel

The Head of Legal and Investigations must possess and be able to demonstrate:

  • An LLB or equivalent • Admission as an attorney or advocate of the High Court of South Africa
  • 6 years post-admission experience
  • Litigation experience
  • Research and writing skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytic and problem solving skills
  • Computer skills
  • Excellent people and programme management, administrative and file management skills
  • Ability to adapt in a fast changing environment
