Society for Family Health (SFH) is a South African affiliate of Population Services International (PSI), an international NGO network that operates in over 50 countries. SFH in South Africa currently concentrates on issues of HIV/ AIDS with the view to strategically expand to other public health areas. As part of its HIV/AIDS control efforts, SFH is using social marketing to motivate behaviour change concerning consistent condom use, HIV testing, and other safer behaviours. SFHs is seeking to fill the exciting and challenging role of Operations Executive.

Based in Johannesburg, the incumbent will supervise fleet, safeguarding, facilities management, asset management, inventory, risk, security and travel function and ensure implementation of efficient and cost-effective administrative procedures as agreed with the PSI HQ in Washington D.C.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

Communications:

  • Communicate and interact effectively with everyone in the workplace; with service providers, public officials and colleagues.
  • Adapt communication to the audience and the situation.
  • Develop a system of communication in unplanned situations (e.g. riots, shootout, fire etc).

Masters the Tools of the Trade:

  • Knowledge of fleet and facilities fundamentals.
  • Experienced in the development and implementation of Business Continuity Plans, Safety and Security Plans, Safeguarding plans and other risk management related plans.
  • Experienced in the implementation of fleet management systems that safeguards assets.
  • Able to streamline the business travel function; including travel insurance and visa.

Organised, Detail Oriented and Master of Time management:

  • Able to successfully implement several activities concurrently, in line with, tight deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Able to act swiftly and without panic in an emergency.
  • Able to inform, guide and report timely on any emergency.

Analytical capabilities:

  • Able to exercise confidentiality.
  • Able to exercise sound judgment and engage in high-impact decision-making.
  • Able to analyse situations and view the implications of decisions.
  • Able to justify the company’s actions related to decisions around safety and security.
  • Able to analyse reports from electronic management systems, to inform decisions by the organisation.
  • Come up with effective cost-effective recommendations on stock, fleet and facilities based on trend analysis.

Industry Savvy:

  • Experience in managing Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) Systems for fleet management
  • Able to network and obtain current security intelligence.
  • Able to negotiate and secure good rates as well as pro-bona services across a diversity of functions.
  • Able to reduce costs and deliver to business standards through successful negotiation of competitive rates.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Post graduate qualifications in Operations Management / Business Management/ Project Management
  • At least five years’ management experience
  • Ideally previous experience working in an organisation funded by PEPFAR, USAID or the Global Fund.
  • Demonstrated successful development of cohesive teams and growing the professional capacities of team members.
  • Measured and appropriate judgment, flexibility and willingness to work simultaneously on a wide range of tasks.
  • Must be democratic, responsive, accountable, diplomatic and transparent in all his/ her actions.
  • Experienced in risk management.
  • The ideal candidate should be able to think creatively and have excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate humility, willingness to listen and learn in the company of colleagues as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent, writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Be willing to undertake frequent travel of up to 8-12 weeks a year in South Africa.

Other special requirements:

  • Own vehicle and driver’s license

Using a total market approach (using social marketing, free distribution and cost recovery services) SFH will be implementing projects that will target:50% of the burden of disease in Nigeria 50% of persons within the lower 3 wealth quintiles, who will have access to SFH products or interventions A 5% increase in DALYs yearly with 2012 as the baseline SFH will also have a 10% decrease in cost per DALY averted over the period of 2013-2017 using the 2012 value as deadline, and will have generated a 20% increase in unrestricted funds by 2017 compared to 2012. SFH will have developed a plan to spin off a subsidiary conducting logistics, research training, costs recovery products and specific interventions aimed at the for-profit sector including the oil and manufacturing sectors.
