The position is to be filled by July 1, 2021, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Torit, South Sudan.
As Head of Project – Cross Border Resilience, you will be independently managing a cross-border project in order to serve the population in Eastern Equatoria, as well as a diverse team in the field offices in Torit and Magwi. You will ensure quality implementation and compliance with standards and regulations, as well as communicating the projects’ results internally and externally. Additionally you will be representing Welthungerhilfe and the project with stakeholders, authorities and the local community in Torit and Magwi. The cross-border project in South Sudan and Uganda features a complex set of activities to strengthen the resilience of refugees, returnees and resident populations. It offers an exciting opportunity for close cooperation with our colleagues in Uganda in order to improve the lives of the people we aim to assist and reduce tensions between the various groups in the borderlands. Activities include market development, youth employment and social cohesion which allow for creative development on the initiative of the project manager.

Your responsibilities
- Ensure that all project relevant support (monitoring, logistics, finance administration, etc.) contributes to optimal project achievements
- Carry out the project planning, implementation, monitoring and the project’s financial control and adapt the activities if necessary, including project risk analysis
- Represent Welthungerhilfe in relevant clusters at state and national levels, within the humanitarian community as well as to the local government
- Report to the Country Director/ Programme Coordinator on the progress of the project(s)
- Ensure beneficiary satisfaction and functioning complaint response mechanisms
- Contribute to the development of country policies and strategies
- Monitor logistical procedures, including warehouse management, inventory control and distribution reports
Your profile
- A university or polytechnic degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Rural Development or equivalent qualifications that are commensurate with this position
- A minimum of 3 years of project and management experience in carrying out transitional/resilience-oriented projects with international aid agencies
- Regional working experience in South Sudan would be an asset
- BMZ Donor experience would be an asset
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
- Coordination and organisational skills – even under a high workload
- Excellent spoken and written English, German language skills would be an asset
