HIAS Africa's main goal is to address the assistance, protection and durable solutions needs for refugees at heightened risk in Africa, through the provision of direct psychosocial, social and resettlement services, as well as through community outreach and capacity building for partners.

Assistance:  HIAS Africa recognizes that refugees must have access to basic needs for survival. For those in peril, HIAS Africa facilitates access to safe accommodation, medical facilities, escort and transportation.

In addition, refugees at heightened risk benefit from trauma therapy in individual and group settings as well as a range of other short-term therapeutic care. Home visits are carried out to enhance evaluation of the client’s condition and to allow for better care.

Protection: Premised on international human rights standards, HIAS Africa responds to and prevents the violation of the human rights of the refugees served through direct services and international advocacy.

Solutions: Recognizing that there are few opportunities for resettlement and that all refugees are entitled to a durable solution, HIAS Africa engages in strategic use of resettlement in Kenya and Uganda, by targeting those with particular protection needs within the vulnerable refugee population.

HIAS Africa aims for a life changing impact, seeking the restoration of dignity for refugees through lasting solutions while also addressing immediate problems such as trauma and immediate physical danger.
