This posting is for a short-time freelance assignment of about 4 calendar months. The assignment is based in WHH’s field office in El Fasher, in North Darfur, Sudan.

Objectives and responsibilities of the position

Your most important duties are as follows:

Phase I: August 1, 2019 – September 30, 2019

  • To develop a clear and precise activity schedule to guide the project team in implementation of the project.
  • To carry out a technical assessment on site and advise on appropriate design for hydroponic gardens for vegetable and fodder production.
  • To assist in drafting/reviewing of BoQ for procurement of hydroponic materials.
  • To train and guide the project staff and line ministry officials (Ministry of Production and Economic Resources) in establishment of hydroponic gardens.
  • To train the project target group (IDPs) in establishment of hydroponic gardens.
  • To monitor the progress of the project and advise the project team on appropriate measures to undertake to ensure success of the project.
  • To lead baseline survey exercise alongside WHH M&E Coordinator.

Phase II: March 1, 2020-April 30, 2020:

  • To monitor the progress of project activities and advise the project team on necessary adjustments.
  • To lead mid-term evaluation of the project alongside WHH M&E Coordinator.
  • With support from the Head of Project, establish linkages between the project target group and the private sector such as suppliers and financial service providers.
  • To advise the project team on potentials for scaling up the project and guide the project team in developing a plan for scale-up.

Your qualifications will include:

  • Experience designing and building hydroponic gardens.
  • Demonstrated success working with vulnerable communities, preferably in arid or semi-arid African regions, in gardening, food production, and skills development.
  • Good communication skills with a high level of English (spoken and written). Ability to produce high-quality reports.
  • Good team player.
  • Experience working in difficult conditions.
