We are looking for a creative and dynamic Individual Consultant that conduct gender audit within PSI/E and in its program implementation areas and identify the gaps with recommendations for addressing identified gaps and challenges, improve strengths that contribute to gender equality.

Objective of the consultancy

  • Conducting gender audit of PSI/E at organizational and program levels;
  • Provide accurate and updated information regarding the status of the integration of gender dimensions in PSI/E programs;
  • Provide practical skills in the methods, tools and approaches used to incorporate gender specific issues into project planning, design, monitoring and reporting
  • Make general and specific recommendations for the improvement of gender mainstreaming across all levels of the program;

Methodology

The consultant will be responsible for developing an appropriate methodology to conduct the gender audit. The instruments will be framed in accordance with the objectives of the study. In consultation with the PSI/E research team, the consultant is expected to identify mechanisms to select study participants and sample size. The method should consist of a mixture of qualitative and quantitative methods. It is expected that the consultant will develop different tools to collect information from different groups, including but not limited to program staff, stakeholders, clients, etc.

Your contribution

  • Develop proposal and get comments from PSI/E research team;
  • Incorporate comments and submit the final proposal for approval;
  • Develop data collection tools;
  • Translate the tool;
  • Lead or co-lead the training of data collection teams and pretest the tool;
  • Coordinate the data collection, resolve challenges, receive daily performance reports of each field team, and compile the daily reports. Share the compiled reports to PSI/E research team
  • Ensure data collection based on agreed protocol
  • Record, transcribe and translate all qualitative data
  • Follow field level data collection activities according to the protocol;
  • Prepare data entry template using appropriate software;
  • Follow up data entry, check for consistencies and completeness;
  • Perform data analysis;
  • Prepare draft report and submit to PSI/E for comments;
  • Finalize the report based on comments and submit to PSI/E;
  • Present the report to PSI/E staff.

What are we looking for? The basics

  • At least Master’s degree in gender, social and behavioral sciences or related fields;
  • Five years of research experience
  • Previous gender related research experience is highly preferable.

  • Fluency in English, with excellent writing and communication skills is required;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and good team spirit
  • Ability to follow deadlines, accuracy and attention to detail.

HISTORY

PSI was founded in 1970 to improve reproductive health using commercial marketing strategies. For its first 15 years, PSI worked mostly in family planning (hence the name Population Services International). In 1985, it started promoting oral rehydration therapy. PSI’s first HIV prevention project — which promoted abstinence, fidelity and condoms — began in 1988. PSI added malaria and safe water to its portfolio in the 1990s and tuberculosis in 2004.

HEALTH IMPACT

PSI has an uncompromising focus on measurable health impact and measures its effect on disease and death much like a for-profit measures its profits. Just last year PSI saved the lives of 9,246 mothers, prevented 3,896,671 unintended pregnancies, stopped 234,367 new HIV infections, and avoided 379,286 deaths due to diseases like malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia that most threaten young children.
