Context:
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Operations and direct supervision of the Information Management Unit Coordinator (Head of IMU), working closely with all client departments, the Graphics Designer will primarily provide in-house assistance in the production of creative design and layout services of specific publications and other communications materials which may include printed, digital and online products to enhance visibility for IOM’s humanitarian response and humanitarian assistance operations in South Sudan.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Provide creative ideas and inputs to assist in the development and design of a compelling IOM South Sudan Information Products Visual Identity for the mission as guided by the Information Management Coordinator.
- Produce preliminary re-useable creative design layouts templates for future product development in line with the IOM style guide that build into the overall IOM South Sudan Information Products Visual Identity.
- Produce graphic designs and artwork for all types of communication materials and corporate/business marketing collateral including, but not limited to, visibility materials, information kits, banners, fliers, leaflets, logos, vector illustrations, custom icons, t-shirts, brochures, posters, stickers etc. for published, printed, digital and electronic media.
- Using typography, visual arts, photography, illustrations and page layout techniques, create preliminary visual compositions and concepts.
- Using Adobe Creative Cloud, assist in the graphic design layout and typesetting of key regular reports, booklets, publications and information products – annual reports, quarterly reports, Migration Crisis Operational Framework (MCOF), Consolidated Appeals Process (CAP)
- showcasing IOM South Sudan’s programmes and operations plans, strategies, updates and achievements.
- Carryout art-work editing of photos and other graphic elements for published, printed, digital and electronic media as guided by the Information Management Coordinator.
- Using Adobe Creative Cloud, assist in the creative design of periodic graphic information products e.g. newsletters, infographics, snapshots, dashboards, sitreps, factsheets etc. that require high creativity skills.
- Produce creative and innovative outputs for commercial print, electronic and web-based media.
- Track and follow up on the print production of publications and materials, and give the approved product printing instructions to commercial printing companies.
- Adhere to Graphic Design principles, guidelines, procedures, and rules.
- Assist in training IMU national staff on the use of Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Stays abreast of new design trends and most current technology in brand, print and digital design and in the publishing field.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
• Master’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Arts, Industrial Art, or other related fields is required or;
• University degree in the above fields with two years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
• Experience as a Graphics Designer.
• Proven graphic design skills in both print, electronic, digital and media.
• A portfolio in graphic design.
• Experience in producing graphic designs products and advocacy campaigns; designing reports and other communications materials
• Experience in graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management.
• Experience in translating technical information into creative products
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator).
• Experience in producing graphics designs products for IOM, the United Nations, or international non-profits in complex crisis situations will be an added advantage.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Arabic, French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
