Softstart Business and Technology Incubator (SBTI) is a nonprofit company based in Midrand, Gauteng which is aimed at stimulating, growing and launching early-stage, technology and innovation based businesses. Its vision is to create globally competitive ICT enterprises.

SBTI seeks to appoint an Innovation Specialist, to be based in Midrand.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship and coaching support on innovation (from ideation to commercialization) to incubated companies
  • Facilitate and organise bootcamps/coding events as part of building a pipeline of innovators (in-house and external)
  • Drive SBTI open innovation challenges and Hackathons
  • Facilitate participation of Softstart BTI entrepreneurs to participate in major innovation events/competitions (locally and internationally)
  • Create links with Universities/TVET colleges, and community based business centres with the objective to encourage innovators and to create new innovation
  • Regularly conduct research on new innovation models and best practices
  • Facilitate the registration of Intellectual Property (IP)
  • Coordinate and facilitate Softstart BTI’s Innovation pitching awards/competitions as part of encouraging and promoting new innovation
  • Oversee and manage SBTI’s Innovation space
  • Lead and support the 4th Industrial Revolution initiatives
  • Lead SBTI’s internal and external innovation projects
  • Develop reports as when needed
  • Undertake any other duty as delegated by the Line Manager

Requirements:

  • BSc/Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Postgraduate qualification advantageous
  • Two years’ relevant experience
  • Knowledge and coding of programming languages (C#, C++, Java, etc.)
  • Facilitation, Presentation and research skills
  • Knowledge of Intellectual Property prescripts and processes
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Need to be a problem solver
  • Must be aware of cutting edge technology in mobile, analytics and Big Data as well as application development
