PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To provide strategic leadership for all of World Vision Ethiopia’s programmes by assuring the effective implementation of the national strategy through integrated (Sponsorship, Grant, PNS and other sources) technical programmes that focus on improving the wellbeing of children.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership to Technical Programme teams in TP portfolio management and in delivering effective implementation of projects (Sponsorship, Grants, PNS & others) within budget and as per agreed plans and donor standards.
  • Represent World Vision Ethiopia at the highest levels with government ministries, other partners and stakeholders to promote the work of WVE and to influence policies and practices impacting the lives of children.
  • Provide direct line management to a response manager if a category level emergency is declared for the country.
  • Manage high level communication with Support Offices and assure WVE programmes department is effectively communicating updates and progress.
  • Provide direct line management to any large grants that are assigned director level supervision.
  • Assure that there is effective integration of sponsorship standards and cross cutting themes (Gender, DRR, child protection, et al) in World Visions Ethiopia’s technical programme implementation.
  • Lead business process improvement and monitoring the implementation of plans to improve efficiency and effectiveness of WVE’s operations.
  • Work closely with other departments (PELS, Communications, Finance, Support Services, P&C, and Resource Acquisition) to ensure the effective management and growth of technical programmes.
  • Actively communicate the issues & decisions raised by programmes department with the SLT and the decisions and priorities of SLT with the programmes department.
  • Carry out the duties of the National Director as assigned, during acting periods.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • MA in Development Studies or Social Sciences or related field.
  • A least 15yrs development experience.
  • A least 7 years Senior NGO leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, orally, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong experience of working in cross-cultural environments.
  • Demonstrated high level of results orientation and problem solving skills.
  • At least 7 years of managing grants from any main institutional donors.
  • Expertise of managing a portfolio of projects covering a range of sectors.
  • At least 7 years of experience of working with offices functions of finance, procurement, human resources, and others.
  • Proven track record of engagement in acquisition through writing proposals or participating in strategic go/no/go processes.
  • Demonstrated experience of engaging with external stakeholders (governmental, research, business and across the organization).
  • Committed Christian.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • A least 10 years Senior NGO leadership experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience of working with offices functions of finance, procurement, human resources, and others.
  • At least 10 years of managing grants from any main institutional donors.
  • Experience of leading operations in 2 or more contexts.

Work Environment/Travel:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time.
