SHA-Ethiopia seeks to recruit an Integrated Soil Fertility Management specialist who will be responsible for the implementation of specific rural livelihood projects.
JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent has the responsibility to work with SHA and PASIDP project team and other partners to identify the appropriate ISFM technology and practices to target FTCs. She/He has the responsibility of managing and ensuring the smooth running of all the project activities to which he/she is assigned in accordance to SHA principles and guidelines. He/she is also responsible for the planning, organisation, direction, implementation, monitoring, budgeting and reporting of the project pertinent to the responsibility. S/he will ensure the technical content the project deliverables conform to the project standards
DETAIL KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Specific duties include but not limited to:
- Provide technical and professional support to introduce and demonstrate Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM) technology and practices with reference to blended fertilizer, bio-fertilizer, lime and conservation agricultural practices to development agents in selected FTCs from PASIDP target beneficiaries
- Work closely with PASIDP project staff to coordinate project activities to build the capacity of FTCs to promote ISFM technology and practices
- Ensure quality and appropriateness of project intervention as well as ensuring sustainability
- Prepare project implementation plans, budgets and carry out diligent implementation of the project pertinent to the responsibility
- Prepare periodical and annual project narrative and financial reports
- Undertake regular monitoring and periodical evaluation of project activities and compile findings
- Write case studies and documenting lesson learned using all possible communication medias
- Organize, conduct and facilitate different training to develop capacity of the community and other stakeholders
- Prepare training materials, proceedings, posters, etc as deemed necessary
- Ensure all project initiatives are implemented to achieve maximum impact as per the project objectives within the schedule and budget
Job Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
Conversant to the concepts and practices of ISFM, including: soil nutrient management, conservation agriculture, minimum tillage, cropping systems and rotation, chemical fertilizer, including tailored blends, and soil amendments
- Bachelors or preferably Master’s degree in agriculture related fields, such as crop or soil sciences, agronomy, or other related fields
- At least four years of proven experience in implementing ISFM project intervention and facilitation of trainings;
- Understanding of ETHIOSIS soil map/atlas
- Result-oriented, and demonstrated ability to take initiative, solve problems, facilitate and coordinate teamwork in view of achieving expected plans and outcomes
- Experience and demonstrated skills in interacting with partners and allies, government and stakeholders
- A strong commitment to the aims, objectives and values of the SHA Ethiopia Country Programme
- Very good level of spoken and written English
- Very good working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general IT skill
- Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation and knowledge of M&E principles
Desirable
- Good understanding of the Ethiopian Government structure and system as well as extension services;
- Experience in team management and coordination
- Practical experience in gender mainstreaming (such as gender analysis & gender auditing).
- Ability to communicate effectively in more than one national language;
- Direct experience in project management
