ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Intern Data Analyst provides technical support for all business and technical processes pertaining to the Data Innovator’s projects with the supervision of the Managing Director. The Intern Data Analyst is responsible for technical support in research and/or evaluation activities, M&E advisory and technical support, and training development and facilitation. The Intern Data Analyst supports other Intern staff and consultants in implementing tasks and managing timelines.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management

  • Tracking set deadlines, creating timelines for self to ensure technical tasks are completed timeously
  • Communicating delays or challenges to implementing activities
  • Track and provide feedback on 1-3 small project allocation (internal or small-scale clients)
  • Request consultants or other team feedback on task progress.

Business Development

  • Develop blogs and other written products
  • Regular contribution on social media and other marketing
  • Contribute to proposal writing
  • Communicate Data Innovator mission and business services

Research and Analysis

  • Supporting study conceptualizing, data collection, cleaning, and assisting with coordination of administrative tasks
  • Data analysis
  • Literature review drafting.

Client Technical Services

  • Draft data viz with support from technical oversight
  • Provide technical support to clients in data management, coordination and basic administrative processes for M&E

Team Resource Support

  • Coordinate administrative processes for recruitment – e.g. interview times

Training and Facilitation  

  • Contribute to training content
  • Facilitate some data viz and data management training
  • Support training coordination and facilitating ice-breakers
  • Document key training activities/outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A post graduate qualification in a relevant discipline such as Social sciences or Public health
  • 0-1 year general experience
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid driver’s license will be an added advantage
  • Ability to analyse and solve problems, persuade, network and negotiate and can work comfortably with diverse groups of people across all levels
  • Fluency in oral and written English, required and preferably, but not required, another SA language
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, effectively managing multiple priorities
  • Attention to detail, strong data acumen and must be innovative and able to identify new opportunities as well as reflective and open to learning
