Organisational Setting and Reporting

The UNODC Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) internship is for six months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department and the availability of the intern.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the overall supervision of the UNODC Regional Representative for the Middle East and North Africa, and direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling) based in Cairo.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the elaboration of background documents, presentations, briefing notes, summaries, talking points and speeches;
  • Assist in the preparation of national and regional technical assistance workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences;
  • Conduct basic research on human trafficking and smuggling of migrants related thematic areas;
  • Attend and take notes at meetings, as required;
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation of the human trafficking and migrant smuggling portfolio, including analysing data and statistics and maintaining databases;
  • Perform other tasks, as necessary.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

  • Studies in the field of humanities, human trafficking, migrant smuggling international relations, international public administration or closely related field is required. Academic training and/or a keen demonstrated interest in international security is an assent.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience
