Org. Setting and Reporting

The UNODC Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35.5 hours) under the direct supervision of the Procurement Associate and the overall guidance of the Representative.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and filling support;
    •Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. correspondence, solicitation documents, etc.;
    •Support in the procurement process for Individual contractors, including the preparation of procurement notices, advertisement, compiling all needed administrative documents, etc.;
    •Support in developing and updating the rosters of suppliers in the MENA region and registering them in the UN Global Marketplace and Umoja;
    •Perform other duties as required.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
•Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION);
•Be computer literate in standard software applications;
•Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
•Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, but are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their application. Applicants must have a keen demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) (in French Office des Nations unies contre la drogue et le crime) is a United Nations office that was established in 1997 as the Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention by combining the United Nations International Drug Control Program (UNDCP) and the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Division in the United Nations Office at Vienna.It is a member of the United Nations Development Group and was renamed the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in 2002.In 2016 - 2017 it has an estimated biannual budget of US$700 million

The office aims long-term to better equip governments to handle drug-, crime-, terrorism-, and corruption-related issues, to maximise knowledge on these issues among governmental institutions and agencies, and also to maximise awareness of said matters in public opinion, globally, nationally and at community level.
