non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
Background Information
Under the overall and direct supervision of the Officer in Charge and in close coordination with Regional Thematic Specialists, the successful candidate will be accountable and responsible for the implementation of activities under projects that the mission is currently implementing:
1) Botswana Migration Profile: supporting evidence-based migration-related policymaking and planning in Botswana: Building Capacities to Promote Evidence-Based Policy Making”.
The 24-months project, aims to foster migration management through supporting the government of the Republic of Botswana in promoting evidence-based policy making through the development of a migration profile. The project aims to provide such support by developing a methodology for migration data collection, sharing, analysis as well as compiling existing information into a migration profile that can serve as a baseline for further reporting. In addition, the project will also include a capacity building component to equip government officials and other stakeholders with the necessary skills and knowledge to as carry out regular updates of the migration profile after completion of the project.
The project is implemented by IOM in collaboration with relevant government Ministries, Statistics Botswana, University of Botswana, Non-governmental organizations and other key stakeholders.
2) Strengthening labour migration management in Botswana: also funded by IOM Development Fund. The overall objective of this project is to support the Government of Botswana, specifically Selibe Phikwe Economic Revitalization Programme, under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, in collecting and utilising skills data to inform and guide efforts to revitalize the economy of the Selibe Phikwe region.
The mission is also supporting implementation of 2 regional projects; Developing a Regional Migration Policy Framework as well as a project geared at Strengthening of Migration data collection and analysis in Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
The successful candidate will also be expected to support Project Development in the mission by engaging with relevant national and regional stakeholders to identify migration priorities for the country and continuously explore new ideas to develop concept notes and proposals for possible funding.
Supervision
The successful candidate will work under the guidance and supervision of the Officer in Charge, and in collaboration with other colleagues in the mission and relevant RTSs at the Regional Office.
Under the direct supervision of the Officer in Charge and in coordination with relevant government ministries and national partners, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Provide support in all IOM activities undertaken in Botswana.
- Support activities related to the development of migration profile.
- Support capacity building of government officials on migration management.
- Provide technical and administrative assistance in the development of the regional curriculum on migration management.
- Support project development through initiating project ideas and drafting concept notes and proposals
- Coordinate with other partner agencies the implementation of the migration management projects.
- Support the Project Consultant(s) in the preparation of work plans, meetings, workshop updates and the project donor report.
- Assist in monitoring implementation of activities to achieve project outcomes and according to the budget.
- Participate in organizing the Regional Migration Dialogue for Southern Africa (MIDSA) and any stakeholder consultation meetings as necessary.
- Provide administrative and logistics support required for the successful implementation of project activities.
- Represent IOM in meetings with government and other relevant stakeholders as required
- Undertake duty travel for project implementation purposes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in any social science field preferably, legal studies, sociology, political science and /or humanities or any related field from an accredited academic institution.
Experience
• Master’s degree an advantage;
• Capability to draft concept notes, project proposals, reports and other types of formal communication;
• Working experience in/with NGO/IGO. Experience in working with Civil Society organizations/NGO highly desirable
• Experience in organizing events, workshops, meetings and strategic planning exercises
• Familiarity with concepts and developments related to irregular migration highly desirable
• Experience in designing and conducting training in adult education methodologies especially in the areas of human rights, gender, capacity building an added advantage
• Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and MS Office applications.
• Required IOM functional competencies: team player, effective communicator, successful negotiator, creative and analytical thinker, active learner, able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
• Ability to function effectively under stressful conditions such as heavy workloads, extensive travel and deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills;
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;
• Practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently;
• Can proficiently use MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
• Can engage in various Social Media platforms.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.
