Streetlight Schools is a low-cost, innovative primary school opening in January 2016. Our unique approach focuses on enquiry, collaboration, exploration, relevance and the use of technology to teach and learn to address the achievement shortfall in primary education in South Africa. Streetlight Schools will have a team consisting of one School Leader, two qualified teachers and two teaching assistants, and an administrator. The team also includes the CEO who oversees overall growth of the organisation and a Curriculum Designer. The school will run nine hours a day, five days a week.
Streetlight Schools seeks to appoint an International Education Fellow, based in Johannesburg.
The purpose of the position is to co-design, implement, and train local teachers and leaders to run an innovative and inspiring middle school for Grades 4 to 7 in inner-city Johannesburg, South Africa.
Requirements:
- Must be open-minded, challenge the status quo educator or school leader with an entrepreneurial spirit
- Experience implementing an inspiring learning environment in your classroom and/or school (e.g. project-based, real world, culturally responsive), and you can show and tell us about it
- Passionate about and have experience supporting others to grow and leaving behind a legacy of skills and excellence in others
- Experience building a team, creating strong culture, and managing others
- Must be willing to relocate to Johannesburg, South Africa for a couple years to partner with us to achieve this dream
- Have experience working with children from disadvantaged communities and in our target age range of 9 to13 year olds
- Must have love, respect, be professional, innovative and dedicated
