International Opportunities for Clinicians

From March 2020 onwards we are looking for a paediatrician with Oncology experience to support a programme of work in partnership with the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to support a programme of work in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

All flights, preparation costs and accommodation are covered by the project.

Clinicians will also receive a stipend of around $500 per month, plus in-country travel costs.

Support will be provided by in-country team and pre-country departure and pastoral support will be provided by the RCPCH team in London with Clinical supervision from the Cardiff Vale team.

Interviews for these roles will take place at candidates’ earliest availability.

There is no closing date for these positions, what we are looking for:

Paediatrician with Oncology experience

Essential Criteria

· Full membership of relevant professional body

· Evidence of interest and involvement in teaching

· Understanding of research methods, and monitoring and evaluation

· Willingness and ability to collect data in relation to the programme quality improvement outcomes

· Oncology experience of febrile neutropenia and supportive care

Desired criteria

· Experience working in a resource poor setting

· EPLS / APLS provider

· Demonstrable management experience preferred (e.g. quality improvement experience within NHS; completed audit cycle; guideline writing)

· Registrar-level experience of oncology at a Shared Care level

Expectation of post-holder

· Lead the oncology care within an established ward team, managing patients in a resource-poor setting while the present post-holder is abroad accessing further training

· Ability to assess and treat paediatric oncology patients with support

· Prescribing chemotherapy to risk-adapted protocol specification

· Provide support for ward nurses and hospital pharmacist

· Weekly ward rounds with experienced palliative care clinician

· Access clinical support from a UK Paediatric Oncology Primary Treatment Centre

· Regular discussion/teaching via WhatsApp/Skype with the Cardiff and Vale team

· Response within 24 hours to urgent e-mail/ WhatsApp queries from the Cardiff and Vale team

· Prepare reports and support arrangements of visits (every 6 months minimum) from the Cardiff Vale paediatric oncology team

· Training in the UK could be accessed prior to post (chemotherapy & intrathecal training)
