Overview of position The project specifically targets the border regions of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger which are the most affected by organized crime and illicit cross-border trafficking, where it is envisaged that the project’s activities could bring significant added value. In Mali, the regions selected are those of Bougouni, Sikasso, Koutiala and San.

The first objective of the project aims to strengthen communication and interactions between defense and security forces and communities, promoting community engagement in the relevant border areas. Its main components include the development of a community perception study on border security in border areas, support to the Security Sector Reform (SSR) process, including through support to the ‘Councils Advisory Councils’ and the setting up of Community Prevention Committees (CPC), the organization of community activities and sensitization helping to build mutual trust between communities and authorities.

The study on the integration and perceptions of communities on border security represents the first step for a better understanding of the challenges and specific needs of the populations concerned in the target regions and for the subsequent design and implementation of adequate responses under form of activities and initiatives within the framework of the project but also beyond it.

Role objectives Under the direct supervision of the perception study consultant, the interviewer in his area of ​​​​intervention will:

Participate in the training held and master the tools to collect data;

Identify 300 people from different families and various genders, age group between 18 and 80 years old, making sure to cover the different ethnic communities living in the area of ​​intervention;

Complete the questionnaires provided by the consultant to the people identified using the methodology explained;

Respect the methodology and apply it in such a way as to collect the best possible data on border communities in a clear, complete and thorough manner in its area of ​​investigation;

Be flexible and dynamic to go to all the areas necessary to have reliable data;

Communicate with the community perception study consultant to explain the data collected, correct any errors, report difficulties;

Ensure the regular transmission and within the pre-established deadlines of the data collected from the consultant for the study of community perceptions;

Make a daily restitution with the supervisor;

Comply with data protection standards.

Reports, technical documentation and other project deliverables will be delivered as listed below:

Establish a chronogram of identification activities according to the specificity of the different localities;

Engage with border communities in the target regions of the study;

Collect information and fill in forms with the smartphone;

Transmit the data collected on a daily basis;

Collect the GPS coordinates of the villages and transmit them to the server;

Carry out any other additional tasks requested by the hierarchy that may contribute to the achievement of the project objectives.
