GIZ Ethiopia is looking to recruit a Junior Value Chains Officer (Foucus on Non-Timber Forest Products) for the Biodiversity and Forest, as specified below. |
Position: Field coordinator in sustainable supply chains (focus on coffee)
Place of Work: Nonu Sale Woreda, Ilu Babor Zone, Oromia

Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent of this post has the main responsibility for the:
- Updating on issues related to non-timber forest products
- Support to the coordination and the field experts in coffee and other value chains
- Follow up on all similar projects in the region
- Keep updated on Value chain approaches and support the project accordingly
Tasks
Updating on non-timber forest products
- To keep an updated list of all kind of non-timber forest products in (western) Ethiopia
- To be in close cooperation with projects dealing with similar topics
- To keep the project and BFP updated on approaches and activities of other projects in the country and mainly of the Ilu Ababor Zone
- To set a basis for better coordination among projects dealing with non-timber forest products (coffee, honey, spices, etc.)
Support to the coordination and the field experts in coffee and other value chains
- To support the field coordinator of the project in Metu
- To support all kind of studies and baselines in non-timber forest products (focus on coffee and bee keeping)
- To support the planned measures related to the increase of coffee production according to the guidelines of a sustainable growing region
- To identify training needs for improving the quality of the production and the processing of NTFP in the Woreda (long pepper, korarime, honey, etc)
- To prepare training and coaching for coffee production and other non-timber forest product value chains
- To coordinate trainings locally and to do the follow up accordingly
- To identify gaps in the supply chain of NTFP and bring them up to the management for decision making
- To keep in touch with market actors in the coffee and other NTFP (non-timber forestry product) sectors in the country
- To follow-up on the implementation of the living-income concept in Nono Sale
- To identify market potentials for different product
Follow up on all similar projects in the region
- To make regular duty trips in agreement with the management and the decentralized staff for all kind of data analysis
- To give feed back to the project managers and the program management concerning coffee and other non-timber forest products’ value chain on a regular basis
- To report on other projects in the region and bridge between them
Keep updated on Value chain approaches and support the project accordingly
- To get knowledgeable on value chain approaches (value links, etc.)
- To look at other value chains and keep updated on the different approaches
Other responsibilities
- To consult continuously with the Programme Management regarding all kinds of activities in the domain of value chains
- To carry out tasks relevant to the programme on request
Job Requirements
Qualifications required
- Degree in Agriculture, Natural resource management with deep interest in economic questions and value chain approaches;
- First experiences in value chains
- First experiences in project activities
- Active involvement in the coffee sector or beekeeping is a big asset
- Good mastering of the English language
- Fluency in Oromifa is an asset
