Project Overview:

The USAID Tuberculosis South Africa Project is five-year contract which builds upon interventions and achievements from URC’s USAID TB CARE II South Africa and the prior TB Program South Africa. Tuberculosis South Africa Project is helping the government of South Africa to further reduce TB infections, with the goal of ending TB once and for all. To reach this goal, Tuberculosis South Africa Project continues to improve the long-term sustainability of effective TB response systems and improve TB care and treatment for vulnerable populations.

Key Populations / Public Private Partnerships Team Leader

The Key Populations/Public Private Partnerships (PPP) Team Leader will serve as the lead in the development, implementation and monitoring of strategies addressing tuberculosis (TB) and multi drug resistant TB among key populations, and to strengthen public-private partnerships (PPP) in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of TB and MDR TB at facility and community levels and in the world of work.

Minimum Roles and Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of strategies in addressing TB among key populations (KP), such as mine-workers, migrant workers, people living with HIV, correctional services inmates, pregnant women, children, etc.
• Provide strategic guidance on development, implementation and monitoring of PPP interventions in facilities, communities and in the world of work to prevent TB/MDR TB and to improve access to TB/MDR TB diagnostic and treatment services;
• Support the introduction and scale up of new TB diagnostic technologies and treatment regimens in public and private health sector settings;
• Liaise and engage the Government of South Africa, the United States Government and other key stakeholders on the implementation of KP/PPP activities to prevent, diagnose and effectively treat TB and MDR TB;
• Support the efforts of the South African Government to strengthen infection control interventions within health settings, public areas and at household levels;
• Lead the Grants team to develop strategies to increase the role of local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in addressing TB and MDR TB among key populations;
• Contribute to short and long term project planning as part of the management team.

Reports

• Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly status reports to the Supervisor.
• Provide activity-based reports a per the project guidelines to the Supervisor.

Minimum Educational Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

• A post graduate degree in public health or equivalent qualification;
• A proven record of leading a similar project in a high TB and HIV burden setting;
• At least 5 years’ relevant experience, preferably in South Africa;
• A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse environment;
• Experience in training/mentoring skills, team building, and advocacy/policy development required;
• Must be a very well-organized individual;
• Good Management skills and ability to work with a diverse team;
• A full time South African national or a Permanent Resident of SA;
• Good Computer skills in Excel, Power Point and MS Word;
• Excellent English language, written and oral skills;
• A valid driver’s license and ability to travel between facilities.
