We are currently recruiting a highly dedicated Livelihood Food Security Specialist based in Ouagadougou with frequent travel to Mali and Niger – 60% (30% to Niger & 30% to Mali)

The purpose of the Livelihoods and Food Security (LFS) Specialist position is technical development of the LFS core competency, strategic direction and quality assurance, as well as the development of funding proposals. The LFS Specialist is responsible for mentoring, training and capacity building of staff in LFS technical capacity.
In Niger and Burkina Faso, the LFS programme is in its infancy, with an initial assessment of programme direction suggesting that the programme should focus on immediate food security coupled with support to re-establish agricultural production and to develop income generating activities depending on the circumstances. In Mali, LFS programming focus on bridging the gap between the emergency response and medium to long-term support, creating an enabling environment for durable solutions. The emergency response relies mainly on the findings of the RRM rapid needs assessment and the response feasibility analysis (Do No Harm, risk analysis, market survey, physical and security access, NRC expertise, etc.). Simultaneously, in areas where a certain stability allows for a longer presence, LFS department will use a “Needs Based Approach and vulnerability analysis” to better guide the response analysis, decision making and response planning to guarantee a smoother transition from emergency to recovery.

Qualifications

Minimum 4 years of experience within a humanitarian/recovery context
Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Minimum 2 years of Livelihoods and Food Security expertise (as Specialist or Project Manager), with a specific focus on basic economic security (Food production inputs, Tools/equipment inputs, Income generation initiatives, Social Safety Net).
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Knowledge and skills in market analysis, cash-based interventions and market-based programmes
Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
Fluency in English and French is required, both written and verbal
