Organizational Setting
FAO’s work in post-disaster and emergency situations emphasizes the protection and rehabilitation of agricultural livelihoods. Following the loss of life, livelihoods and destruction caused by Cyclone Idai in March 2019, The World Bank has availed USD 75 million to finance the Zimbabwe Idai Recovery Project. The ZIRP is a multi-sectoral project addressing both early and mid-term recovery needs in livelihoods, health, education, agriculture. FAO is implementing the agricultural component of the ZIRP which will run over a period of 24 months.
Reporting Lines
Working under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Zimbabwe, and direct supervision of National Project Coordinator, the Livestock Specialist will provide expert technical support to the project
Technical Focus
The technical areas/profiles covered will be as follows:
- Livestock production information systems
- Livestock product quality payments schemes
- Knowledge sharing and capacity building
Tasks and responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on all matters related to the livestock subcomponent of the project to ensure , smooth project implementation.
- Lead the development of specifications for livestock equipment, infrastructure, accessories and services required by the project.
- Participate in project monitoring and drawing up lessons learnt and course corrections.
- Perform other related duties, including the direct implementation of some technical activities, as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- An advanced degree in Animal Sciences or related field
- At least ten years of experience in the livestock production sector, animal health, extension and/or research.
- Excellent English, communication, facilitation and computer skills
- National of Zimbabwe
