Job Description

The Livestock Value Chain advisor is based in Feed the Future Ethiopia Value Chain Activity (FTFE-VCA) headquarters in Addis Abba, Ethiopia with frequent travel to the field and reports to the Chief of Party. He/she will oversee the development of livestock (meat and live animals, dairy and poultry) value chain strategies. In addition to the specific tasks stated below, he/she is expected to contribute fully as a program team member, conducting him/herself in a proper manner at all times as representative of the activity and is responsible for the safe keeping and care of all activity assets assigned to him/her.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the livestock portfolio of the FTFE-VCA, providing strategic and tactical support to ensure successful implementation of the value chain activities ;
  • Provide inputs for work plans and budgets, quarter and monthly reports, program success stories, etc. as required;
  • Supervise the livestock value chain technical team to ensure the delivery of high quality technical services in consultation with the regional teams;
  • Serve as an ambassador for the activity with USAID and other donors, Ethiopian government  officials  and stakeholders including but not limited to representatives of the Agricultural Growth Program (AGP) and the Ministry of Agriculture;
  • Perform any other duties as may be required by the COP.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in related field of study from a recognized University;
  • More than 1O years of experience within livestock agri-business and private sector development, value chain analysis and value addition directly relevant to dairy, poultry, meat and live animal.
  • Clear understanding of the farming community and extensive work experience within USAID projects; with at least 5 years in a management position;
  • Excellent team building and organizational skills together with the ability to interact across a multi­ cultural environment;
  • Fluent in English, Amharic and other local languages;
