The European research Institute (ERI) is
implementing the Project entitled “CESAD – Circular Economy in Sustainable

local NGOs, Njawara Agricultural Training Center (NATC) and Agency for the
Development of Women and Children (ADWAC) in the North Bank Region of Gambia to
support the development of local rural sector.
The expected
impact of the project is the
transformation of the agricultural sector in a profitable business, namely a
sector able to generate profit for those who are occupied in it and create work
opportunities for unemployed people.
The specific
objective is the increase of sustainable competitiveness of smallholder
farmers.
Two intermediary
objectives are defined to reach the above mentioned specific objective, the
first is related to the production of a valuable agro-commodities offer and the
second one is set market accessibility and business relations for the
distribution of agro-commodities. The strengthening of the offer is meant to
reduce farmers vulnerability in the agro-commodities market and the market
accessibility will be fundamental to introduce farmers in the local economy
sector.
Target
groups of the activities are 2000
smallholders farmers (60% women – 40% youths aged between 18 and 50 years old)
belonging to the SOLICITA Cooperative established in the North Bank Region.
Estimated
results of CESAD Project are:
– Increase
in productivity of farming activities;
– Introduce
climate resilience farming practices;
– Save time
consecrated to agricultural activities to invest it in other profitable
activities;
– Improve
distribution processes of agro-commodities produced;
– Strengthen
the farmers resilience through the diversification of supply (introduction of
