HelpAge International (www.helpage.org) is the secretariat to the HelpAge Global Network, which brings together a wide range of organisations and individuals working together to ensure that older people lead dignified, active, healthy and secure lives. HelpAge International’s secretariat is based in London, UK but works in 75 countries across the world through its’ 148 partners.

HelpAge has been operating in Ethiopia since 1992 and has been engaged on thematic sectors including social protection, health and wellbeing, emergency response and capacity building of partners. HelpAge International is currently responding to the needs of drought and conflict affect older people in Borena. Programme sectors include nutrition and health, protection, shelter/NFI support and inclusive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. HelpAge also works with older people organizations and other humanitarian actors in promoting inclusive.

Helpage is looking for a vibrant logistician to be part of the Borena Emergency Response Team.

Job purpose

Logistic and liaison support Officer plans, organizes, processes and documents the purchase and delivery of goods and services to the project field implementation areas and provide all the necessary support to the field office programme and support staff. In addition he/she need to work closely with Addis Ababa logistic team to facilitate the procurement of goods; settlement of vehicle rentals; arrangement of vehicle service maintenance, settlement of bills, etc. Essentially he/she needs to ensure the right materials are delivered to the right location on time and at a fair cost.

He/ She shall be involved in procurement of goods and services at field office; vehicle assignment and management; transportation of goods to project sites, and the flow of materials and delivery of services. The logistic and Liaison Support Officer needs to have an understanding of the whole supply chain management, so that he/ she can co-ordinate and facilitate effectively and liaise with suppliers and other stakeholders as required. The Logistic and Liaison Support Officer will facilitate and/or deliver all travel related services and accommodation to guests/ visitors at project offices on time and with quality. The position holder shall be responsible or all reporting on logistical matters of the field office including PR/PO tracking; fleet summary reporting and providing monthly logistics update to the head office.

Job Requirements

Person specifications required for the post:

BSC or BA degree in Business Administration, Purchasing & Supplies Management, or Logistic Management or related fields from well recognized academic institutions. At least 5 years of experience is required. For MSC/ MA degree minimum of 3 years’ experience is required.

This post requires a person who have the ability to engage and demonstrate on data analysis and interpretation especial in analysing tender bid documents and summarizing; good command of English both written and oral; Good working knowledge of excel, word, and office 365.

Behavioral Competencies

This post requires a person who is result oriented and able to work with his/ her team members in line with organisational priorities and have the ability to cooperate and support others so as to drive high quality work; should have the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders and work under stressful environment conditions. Having good analytical skill is a must and requires a person who is self-managed, committed, knowledgeable and confident.
