MdM currently works in more than 30 countries across all continents where it focuses on 5 priority areas: emergency and crisis, sexual and reproductive health, harm reduction, migrants and displaced populations (health rights), health and environment.

MdM has been implementing an emergency program in Borno State since 2016, in response to an humanitarian crisis ensued from violent conflict associated with Boko Haram insurgency, focusing on improving access to Primary Health Care (PHC), treatments of Under-nutrition and provision of services to MdM’s clients of Gender-based Violence (GBV), Sexual and Reproduction Health (SRH) and Mental Health and Psychological Support (MHPSS). With the country coordination unit in Maiduguri and 2 field offices in both Maiduguri and Damboa and 1 liaison office in Abuja, MdM’s interventions cater for for IDPs and host populations who seek services in fixed PHC clinics directly run by MdM across different project sites in Maiduguri and Damboa. Also, MdM is supporting two State-run MoH health posts in two other locations in Damboa.

MdM also has also been carrying out a yearly emergency intervention in response to cholera outbreaks and has a contingency including a trained team to respond to same any period the need arises.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the field coordinator, you are in charge of supporting the logistics team for the smooth running of the base, following up the logistics activities to facilitate the operational part of the project with the resources, procedures and tools defined with the logistics coordinator. You also support the supply chain of MdM Damboa base. You supervise the deputy base logistician.

Your main responsibilities are the following:

Supply for the implementation of the base and the program

  • Ensure the follow-up of the supply for the base and the project
  • Establish and update purchasing timelines following the logistical constraints
  • Supervise purchasing, ensuring that approval rules and procedures are observed
  • Ensure that purchasing documents are completed and archived
  • Regularize all purchases files
  • Update price lists, supplier files and purchase follow-up tools
  • Implement the risks management SOPs and take diligent measures

Vehicle fleet management

  • Negotiate vehicle rental contracts
  • Supervise the team of drivers, including scheduling, in line with MdM HR policies, safety rules and procedures
  • Supervise the planning and execution of maintenance and repair work on mission vehicles
  • Ensure that drivers are aware of their obligation to adhere to MdM safety rules and procedures
  • Check that vehicle logbooks and other mandatory or legal document are in place and are used correctly

Equipment and asset management

  • Ensure tagging of assets is done
  • Ensure proper repairs and maintenance of equipments and assets
  • Organize for disposal of obsolete equipments and assets
  • Proper record keeping of all organizational equipments and assets
  • Follow up on incident reports for damaged or lost equipment and assets

Warehouse and stock management

  • Ensure warehouse security and personnel safety is observed
  • Check, on a daily basis, that all warehouse records are up to date and accurate
  • Ensure the management of contingency and buffer stocks

Compound and facility management

  • Ensure safety of MdM staff within the compounds
  • Ensure firefighting equipments are placed on strategic positions
  • Ensure clear accessibility to all areas of concern within the compounds
  • Ensure that the compound has lights, water and other necessities all through

IT & communication

  • Ensure there is stable and reliable internet
  • Support and ensure the rollout and use of VHF communication system
  • Support in the training of staff on VHF use and communication

Base maintenance

  • Supervise the team of guards, including scheduling
  • Ensure the regular order for the guesthouse
  • Ensure the maintenance of the base
  • Upgrade and develop facilities for the living area of the expatriates

Construction activities management

  • Monitor the construction activities
  • Review tenders, BoQs, designs and drawing for construction
  • Follow up to ensure the plan and BoQ are strictly respected

Security

  • Support the logistics coordinator in all aspects of security measures
  • Ensure implementation of the security protocols by the drivers and guards, as well as through procurement procedures

Team management

  • Recruit and monitor the performance of the logistics team
  • Provide technical support to the logistics team
  • Assist the deputy base logistician in maintaining good inter-team communications and engender good team dynamics

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Status : Employee Contract : Fixed-term contract
  • Duration : 6 months
  • Starting date: as soon as possible
  • Based in Maiduguri with regular field visits to sites of intervention
  • Gross monthly salary: 2660 euros
  • Premium equal to one month salary paid in two instalments – minimum of 6 months seniority required
  • Expatriation bonus (10% gross salary per month)
  • Transportation cost, vaccines and visas covered
  • Guesthouse housing
  • 22.5 RTT (recovery days) per year
  • 5 weeks of paid leaves per year

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

  • Diploma or certificate in logistics management
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in logistics
  • At least one previous experience with an INGO is required

  • Languages : English is mandatory (oral and written), and knowledge of Hausa or French is an asset

Médecins du Monde (MdM; French pronunciation: [medsɛ̃ dy mɔ̃d]) or Doctors of the World, provides emergency and long-term medical care to the world's most vulnerable people. It also advocates to end health inequities.

It was founded in 1980 by a group of 15 French physicians, including Bernard Kouchner. It works in both the developed and developing world.

MdM was formed with a mission to provide timely emergency medical care, free of legal and administrative restrictions; to work with local populations to ensure long-term sustainability of healthcare systems; and to advocate on behalf of client populations.

After more than 35 years of work, MdM is a famously active advocate for its beneficiaries, and works to change the underlying inequalities that affect people's ability to access medical care.

MdM was formally established on 1 February 1980. Its goals were "to go where others will not, to testify to the intolerable, and to volunteer".

Its origins lay in a 1979 intervention to assist a drifting boat of Vietnamese refugees in the South China Sea. Kouchner, with volunteer doctors, journalists, and others organized a hospital boat, L'Île de lumière, to provide medical care and to report the refugees' suffering.

MdM was founded as Bernard Kouchner and 14 others doctors split from the group he previously founded, Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF, or Doctors WIthout Borders). It has been reported Kouchner felt that MSF was giving up its founding principle of témoignage ("witnessing"), which refers to aid workers making the atrocities they observe known to the public.

Kouchner was president of MdM from 1980 to 1982. In 1989, the foundation of MdM Spain paved the way for the creation of the MdM international network. In 2015, the MdM global network consisted of fifteen associations; France (founded 1980), Spain (founded 1989), Greece (founded 1990), Italy and Switzerland (both founded 1993), Sweden (founded 1994), Cyprus (founded 1995 by Elena Theoharous[1]), Argentina (founded 1998), Belgium, Canada and Portugal (all founded 1999), as well as in Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, the Netherlands, and the USA.
